Ranking the Greedy Emissary reskins of the Tier 2 sets from best to worst

This year’s Greedy Emissary crossover features hourly Treasure Goblins being pummeled into submission in order to acquire their loot — “hellish” recolors of WoW’s beloved Tier 2 armor sets. Hopefully you’re well on your way to collecting as many of these fiery ensembles as you can carry.

If you’re busy with Lorewalking, collecting mounts and transmogs from old raids, and earning an an astral green dragon, then fear not! I am here with my Boots of Fashion Critiquing to let you know which of these looks sizzle and which flame out. This is the best and worst of the latest Tier 2 recolors.

Looks that are certainly on fire

The Warlock ensemble is very reminiscent of a flaming underworld, with the skulls and horns completing the menacing look nicely. The gradients from deep maroon through burnt orange hold their own, but they are enhanced by the ample flaming skulls atop. The Mage set is the winner for me. Those fiery shoulder orbs and phoenix-like headgear really fit well with an incoming Pyroblast.  The Druid outfit has vibes of an angry autumn spirit, and the antlerwork is just as superb as always.

When the colors work, they work

Next up are four outfits that pop due to their unique and diabolical hues. If you caught my review of the 20th anniversary remasters of the Tier 2 sets, you’ll recall that I popped Judgement right on the bottom. If you’re a Paladin that holds a grudge, then I give you an olive branch — the crimson hues of this ensemble are crushing it. I can’t believe I’m saying it, but I am a huge fan of the Hunter set this time around. The acid-green mixed with muted purple and grey stands out by not relying on the red-orange-yellow palette to evoke eternal damnation.

The Monk set was a tough sell for me with the base looking a little like a white t-shirt, but the contrast with the black accents and just the right amount of dark red bled in leads to an impressively devilish air. Priests look simply stunning in a literally on-fire ensemble. The rust-red borders around the amber insets are the perfect foil for the bright gold spikes and glorious flaming crown.

Missing the flaming mark

I liked the Death Knight set a lot, but the more I examined it, the more it couldn’t be carried by the embedded flames alone. It seems a bit like the uniform for an undead door-to-door salesman for fire insurance. I get that not all thirteen outfits can be bright red or full of flames, but the Shaman look doesn’t seem hellish enough to me. Maybe if you idea of hell is drab brown and exposed midriffs.

The Warrior set is quite cool with all the axes and such, but I feel like all the colors it is trying to be are getting in each other’s way. Is it purple? Olive-aqua? It ultimately runs together into looking like you’re a bouncer for an underground robot fighting club.

Can we come to hell too?

We kick off the bottom rung on the ladder with the Demon Hunter ensemble, which struggles to establish itself. A strong showing by the fel-infused shoulder spikes is overshadowed by a general lack of cohesiveness.

The Rogue outfit is so close to a strong entry, but it looks as if the proper headpiece was lost in shipping on the way to the runway and we had to make do with a folded black tablecloth from our vaguely hell-ish uncle. Finally, Evokers are dressed by someone who seems a bit confused on the palette of the flaming underworld. Pulsing crimson gems aren’t enough to make up for an overall appearance of a gold statue with velvet trim.

Alright, let’s doff these Boots of Fashion Critiquing because they have toe-claws like most of these sets and I’m getting cramps in my foot muscles. All thirteen of these transmogs look pretty fantastic, and with Treasure Goblins dropping the required Hellstone Shards everywhere I look, I am going to try like hell to collect all of them.
