Live the dream of cosplaying an Ethereal in WoW patch 11.2

The Ethereals (and their erstwhile cousins the Brokers) have a huge role to play in WoW patch 11.2 — which makes sense, since we’re off to their broken homeworld of K’aresh to save what’s left of it (plus, you know, the known universe) from the Void Lord Dimensius. Some of us have been jonesing to play as these arcane mummy-like characters since the days of The Burning Crusade. While there is no indication of any of that coming our way in patch 11.2, there are a lot of fun new items coming in the patch to start scratching that itch by allowing players to look like an Ethereal, whether you’re content to simply dress like them or you want to find a way to actually be an Ethereal for a limited time.

The easiest way to wear the mummy wrappings of your dreams is simply to pick up gear from the patch. Everything from the quest gear available from the Ghosts of K’aresh campaign to the gear available from Phase Diving and Manaforge Omega features combinations of the angular aesthetic and full-body wrappings of the Ethereals. Examples include the ensembles from Phase Diving like the Untethered Blade’s Garb, the cosmetic Reshii Hood and Reshii Mantle that match your artifact cloak Reshii Wraps, and even unusual pieces like a cloak appearance (unfortunately not attached to an item yet) that looks like Soulbinder Naazindhri’s levitating cloak. There’s no shortage of gear with that trademark space mummy look — you’ll find it on cosmetics vendors, you’ll find it as drops (including weapons), and you’ll even pick up a set of it as part of the 11.2 quest campaign.

However, what if you’re not content to merely look like an Ethereal? What if you need to be an Ethereal? Well, now you can be for twenty to sixty minutes at a time, but get ready to pony up to your nearest Enchanter. The War Within added a series of fun consumables called Gleeful Glamours, which let you look like a different playable race — even ones not normally available to your faction or class. Most of these simply come from talenting into Enchanting’s Gleeful Glamours tree, but now in patch 11.2 a new formula has been found to create a Gleeful Glamour of an Ethereal. This is especially noticeable because this is the first Gleeful Glamour we have to let us play as a non-player race. Is this a sign of an allied race in the making, or am I just huffing massive amounts of hopium? You be the judge — I’ll be over here looking like an Ethereal day in and day out.

As a bonus, in case you’d rather look like a Broker than an Ethereal: keep your eyes peeled for the world quest The Ugly Mirror, just east of Manaforge Omega’s entrance on the K’aresh map. This quest challenges you with fixing a broken transmogrifier mirror by doing a simple “wire untangling” minigame, and rewards you with a twenty-minute buff that turns you into a Broker! You’ll discover Brokers lack a lot of animations (including jumping, of all things), but it’s still fun to run around K’aresh in one of their power suits.
