Figment 2 and Sky Racket are this week’s free games from the Epic Games Store

This week’s free game offerings from the Epic Games Store includes a sequel to last week’s freebie, and a retro feeling side scroller.

Last week we got Figment for free, and now it’s being immediately followed by Figment 2. I love that kind of synergy. Figment 2 gives a lot of the same stuff as its predecessor, in a slightly upgraded package. The graphics are more polished, and there’s a new element of music to contend with as you battle your way through imaginative dreamscapes. This is a stand-alone successor — if you missed last week’s freebie, you can jump right in to Figment 2 without any issues at all.

  • Game Type: shoot em up, brick breaker, action
  • POV: 3rd person, 2D sidescroller
  • Party: Single player
  • DLC: None.

This is one of those games where the framing device is kind of bonkers but the actual gameplay is familiar and straightforward. You play as a mouse tennis pro, somehow, and shoot out… tennis balls? I think? Anyway, the gameplay boils down to more or less a Bullet Hell sidescroller, and it’s a pretty fun time if you’re into that kind of thing. It’s a bit of a love letter to retro gaming. Just don’t think about the plot too hard or your synapses might involuntarily catch fire.
