The Queue: chandelier

I’ve been looking for a new chandelier for a while now. The one we have is hideous and just needs to be replaced in general, but my sense of style tends to be, generously, eclectic. My usual issue is, I’ll start looking at things, and then I’ll keep looking at similar things, and oh, what about that, and after a while I’ve been looking at similar things for so long, I end up down a rabbit hole where I can’t tell if something is really cool or hideous, or if it’d perfect for my room, or if it completely clashes with every other design decision I’ve made up to this point. I’m also a little bit nervous about what I’m going to find when I actually take down the old one — our house isn’t all that old, but one of the previous owners thought he was far handier than he actually is. It’s been a ride, y’all.

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us questions and we definitely don’t answer in metaphors. Anyway, Player Housing is gonna be great, super pumped for that.

KALCHEUS

Q4tQ What are you most excited for in 11.2?

Your birthday, actually! Happy birthday, Kal.

kay, that’s done, when’s 11.3?

BRAINSTRAIN

Finishing some random achievements in Archaeology (in RuneScape) and reminding myself how its probably my favorite skill in any MMO.

I wish WoW had committed to finding a way to make Archaeology work. It was great in Legion – I wonder why they never did that again?

This is likely my bad, because I very much enjoyed Archaeology. It was one of the best ways to kill time when you were queued as DPS for dungeons and things. You can still fish or go gathering or whatever, but it just isn’t the same. Conversely, when I’d play my Healer, with darn near instant queues, my interest in Archaeology waned quickly — I know people liked it for the lore, and that was neat, but for me it was all about searching for random little doodads.

DRAYGONIA

How many games do you typically try to play at once? I’ve always been more of a one-at-a-time guy, but lately I find myself trying to keep up with 5 or 6 titles and my old brain can barely handle it

It really, really varies on what the games are.

I have a subset of vibes-games that are somewhat passive I use as ambient noise while I’m doing work. The most obvious ones are those that are designed to that purpose like Spirit City, but games like Cast n Chill or Tiny Aquarium or Cloud Gardens all have chill vibes that I don’t have to directly engage with all the time. I’ll also have a classic pure mechanics or puzzles game in the mix most of the time, like right now I’m playing through Prose & Codes. Also in this category would be Hearthstone Battlegrounds or Balatro or anagrams.

Then, I’ll have a “major” game I’m going through, and this is where things can vary. Something with a heavy narrative angle I will almost always hyperfocus to the point of distraction — games like BG3, Clair Obscur, the Red Dead series, even the Fallouts and Skyrims, I’ll be heavily invested in that one game. When I play those, all other games will fall by the wayside. By contrast, games with more self-guided goals, or games with a “just one more” gameplay loop I tend to get less tunnel visioned, and they’ll more easily slot in to my regular schedule and rotation. Right now I’ve been hopping around between Sulfur and Icarus, with occasional forays into Pacific Drive — though the reason I’ve been playing PD less is because I play with relatively demanding settings, and it’s been so hot out it’s been crashing my computer. I also just picked up Tall Trails.

DISHSOAP

Spirit City folks:
Y’all excited for the train expansion?

I was at first surprised by the train travel expac coming, considering the contents of the interest survey I took earlier this year. BUT. I actually think I’m pretty thrilled with the idea of the train travel now, I really loved reading on the train when I lived out east. Trains are like moving liminal spaces, and I’m into it.

Yes! Though I’ve come to realize that I will likely lap up whatever hot garbage they put in front of me, so I’ve been paying less and less attention to the teasers. I’ll see it when I buy it. I have a very similar attitude as far as Player Housing goes. There is a cap on hype and I reached that the second it was announced, so I just want it, please. You had me at hello, we’re good, it’s fine, just give it to me.
