All the Daggerheart news from Darrington Press at GenCon 2025
GenCon 2025, one of the premier events in the tabletop RPG industry, just wrapped up, and — considering that the game’s only been out a few months — there were a surprising number of announcements for Darrington Press’ Daggerheart. We’ve already seen that a lot of new stuff is in playtesting for Daggerheart (and there’s some of that, as well — a new Transformations feature to unleash your inner werewolf or vampire, as well as version 1.5 of all the new features already in testing), but we now know that there’s definite news about those vague “campaign-focused” products that Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford joined Darrington Press to work on.

Class packs coming to crowdfunding
As noted on their own news page, Daggerheart will soon have a crowdfunding campaign for what they’re calling “class packs.” If you’ve tried to find a physical copy of Daggerheart, one of the things you’ve probably found is that demand is so high it can be hard to find in print. As a method to alleviate some of that demand and also offer a new way to learn and play a class, Darrington Press will be kickstarting class packs that contain everything you need to play a single class — all seventy-six cards relevant to the class, including ancestry, community, subclass, and the two domains associated with the class. As well, it will contain a PDF excerpt that will teach you how to play that class (and Kickstarter backers will get a PDF of the core rules, too).
This is cool not only for offering a possible solution to print demand and card overlap — the core rulebook does come with all those cool cards, but if people have overlapping domains, it can be nice to have multiples — but also for offering a possibility for future class releases. Interested in the playtesting Warlock class that I played in our three-episode run (episodes one, two, and three) of Daggerheart? There is a future in which Darrington doesn’t need to wait for a whole class book to come out, but instead releases the Warlock Deck as physical copies to stores and print-and-play to digital storefronts.

Homebrew kit for making your own content at home
People interested in homebrewing their own content for Daggerheart will probably be interested in the free release of the Daggerheart Homebrew Kit, which offers an in-depth guide to creating everything from monsters and magic items to whole classes, subclasses, and domains for the game. As Matt Mercer said in an interview with Todd Kenreck, the Homebrew Kit was initially part of the core book, but eventually the page count become unreasonable, so rather than enlarge the core rulebook or cut the Homebrew Kit down to something that didn’t meet their original goals, they opted to release it as a separate product after the fact.

Lots of new campaign frames and settings in the works
If you’ve picked up Daggerheart and you’re interested in campaigns for it, you might like the next piece of news: there are two new campaign settings in the works. You can look forward to With Love and Magic, a romantasy campaign frame based on Tusk Love (a recurring joke from Critical Role‘s second campaign and now a New York Times bestselling novel), as well as an unnamed and “hellishly terrifying” full setting from Jeremy Crawford. Chris Perkins, meanwhile, is working on a series of interconnected adventures that will cross multiple campaign frames — multiverse hopping in Dragonheart? If that’s not enough, there was another exciting announcement on the setting front: Keith Baker and Jenn Ellis (the minds behind things like the Eberron campaign setting, Phoenix Dawn Command, and Illimat) and their studio Twogether Studio will be bringing another new setting (featuring new player options!) to Daggerheart.

Daggerheart actual play content galore
Last but not least, there’s lots of actual play for folks who like to watch other people game in their spare time. We found out there will be a second campaign of the grimdark Critical Role actual play miniseries Age of Umbra. This spooky campaign frame creates some compelling stories so it’ll be interesting to see them return to it, presumably with a new cast of characters. Legends of Avantris and Dungeons & Daddies are also doing some one-off content, and Bonus Action will be using Daggerheart for their third volume. It wasn’t officially announced, but I’d bet we’ll see more Daggerheart live play from the fourth Critical Role campaign, too, helmed by Brennan Lee Mulligan as GM — though we didn’t have an official announcement on that front… yet.
