The Queue: The Algorithm

One of the easiest, most straightforward ways to stay informed with my kids’ schools is social media, and many of my friends and relatives are teachers for a bunch different concentrations and grade levels. Now, the algorithm thinks that I’m just broadly interested in education posts. I’m seeing the team of teachers for first grade in Biloxi, Mississippi, and the flier for lacrosse tryouts in Wheeling, West Virginia, and the school lunch graphic for this week out of Missoula, Montana. Meanwhile, I’m not seeing posts from my kids’ schools or my friends back-to-school wishlists. This is fine.

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us questions and we’ll give you some answers just as soon as we scroll far enough to see the wishlist my cousin said she posted for her art class. It might be a while.

Given any option, my answer to flooring will almost always be parquet, IRL or in gaming. I don’t necessarily want wood in a bathroom, but other than that, I will always choose any pattern of parquet over any other floor. It’s tough to say in advance, though, since I’m not sure how we’ll be able to texture the floors. Something like a flagstone might be nice if I can use it in parts of my Housing, but since I’m not all in on the Orcish Horde aesthetics, it may just make it look more… like that instead of a cozy cottage vibe.

I would guess they’ll develop some kind of app, similar to the functionality part of Spirit City but likely without all — or, at least, many of — the fun gamification aspects. Most students live on their phones and tablets these days, with their computers being mostly school-issued laptops that nobody in their right mind would use with the Steam client. Having a just Lofi Girl music app would allow them to form a more diverse revenue stream they have more control over. Though I’m always aware of my own shortcomings in the coding department making me sound silly for making a statement like this, it doesn’t seem like it would be too difficult to add a bare 15 minute timer with an alarm overlaid on a music app if you’re already building a music app.

Given Lofi Girl’s overarching brand, as much as I’d love a FPS where I get to pet a cat sometimes, I do think if there are any other games in the Lofi universe, they’re likely in the puzzle or cozy genres. Anagrams, nonograms, sudokus, crosswords, maybe even match 3s.

Though, yeah, also east coast US here. And it would be rare that I would get solely broccoli on a pizza, though Kal has it right that broccoli on a white pie is a better combo than a regular cheese.
