We have news about Legion Remix! Let’s recap everything we know about the World of Warcraft event coming with patch 11.2.5
Friends, we finally have more news about World of Warcraft Legion Remix and I am bouncing up and down with excitement over this news. The news post came out following a dedicated WoWCast episode on the “fast, fun, and Fel-filled seasonal event.” Buckle up, we’ve got a lot to discuss, such as all the wacky shenanigans the Infinite Dragonflight is going to take us on this time (and what World of Warcraft class is not invited to the party) that will be available for limited testing in the patch 11.2.5 PTR.
Legion Remix Phases
Now, we’re still getting (mostly) the full Legion experience: the full campaign with side quests and World Quests, Class Order Hall campaigns with Artifact quest lines, all twelve dungeons (and the Kharazan mega-dungeon), five raids, Invasion Points, and the Withered of Suramar, but on an accelerated timeline courtesy of the Infinites’ time magic.
But interestingly enough, Blizzard is taking a page from their Classic playbook for rolling out Remix content. Yes, Re:Legion will have phased releases. According to the news post, the launch of this new Remix will start with the expansion’s “original launch content” and they’ll end with Argus and Antorus. New content will come with each phase’s release (which will be “fast paced”), as well as “a bump to the maximum item level players can reach.”
Blizzard outlined five phases, roughly aligning to each major Legion content release:
- Skies of Fire: the Broken Isles storyline through Azsuna, Val’sharah, Highmountain, and Stormheim, ten dungeons (although Court of Stars and Arcway may remain time-gated), and the Emerald Nightmare raid.
- Rise of the Nightfallen: Suramar, including the Nightfallen’s story and the Insurrection campaign, World Quests, the Return to Karazhan mega-dungeon, and the Nighthold and Trial of Valor raids.
- Legionfall: the Broken Shore campaign with Legion Assaults, the Cathedral of Eternal Night dungeon, and the Tomb of Sargeras raid.
- Argus Eternal: the Argus campaign across Krokuun, Eredath (formerly named after a now-departed Blizzard developer), and the Antoran Wastes, the Seat of the Triumvirate dungeon, and Antorus, the Burning Throne raid.
- Infinite Echoes: “As the Legion Remix timeline begins collapsing, say your goodbyes and embrace the chaos.”
Apparently that last phase will let us “say goodbye to all the infinites, your friends, and allies you made along the way,” but we’re still not sure what “embrace the chaos as the timeline begins to collapse” entails. You might want to be afraid. Maybe.

Artifacts are the new power-up system
The Artifact weapons have been a piece surrounded by question marks, too, with the weapons taking on the role held by the cloak and gem system of ReMists — after all, some of or modern WoW class talents came directly from the weapon’s skill trees. Instead, the weapons will share a “trait tree” and you get to select the path from five power types (Nature, Fel, Arcane, Storm, and Holy) that you can respec at will with an incredible new “Quick Assign” feature that claims all the points en-route to your selected one.
Throughout Re:Legion, you’ll find jewelry to augment your artifact buildout. Pieces will add trait Ranks from any path, remove trait Ranks from other paths, or “boost your chosen path beyond its natural limits.” Between the two, your build can genuinely be yours — wholly customized based on your gearing and trait choices (although we all know “ideal builds” will be available from Wowhead and IcyVeins within the first week).
Players from original Legion content may be asking about the speed of unlocks. After all, we had to build up Artifact Knowledge to progress our weapons, and while higher Artifact Knowledge ranks meant more artifact power, it also translated into increased levels of Artifact Knowledge required to hit the next rank. The short answer is: we don’t yet know, but are guessing something similar will exist to unlock your next trait on your weapon’s path.

Difficult challenges and temporary power-ups abound in the Broken Isles
This is new to World of Warcraft but familiar to Diablo players — Re:Legion will have a system to make outdoor content more challenging, thanks you Eternus’ drive to “prepare the champions of Azeroth for what could happen if things get worse” (Hey Eternus — we still have a sword in our planet). This new system, called the Heroic World Tier, will feature buffed-up creatures with more health and damage as well as “Affix-like buffs.” But these challenges will of course be met with greater (but yet-undefined) rewards. Presumably this is content that we’d tackle post-level 80, when you’ve had time to power up your artifact weapon and acquire some shiny jewelry to complement it.
Speaking of complementary systems, Re:Legion will also have an open world buff option. Peppered throughout the experience are Timewarped Obelisks. These grant “temporary but powerful buffs to players exploring the (remixed) world.” Presumably, they work like shrines and pylons in Diablo, but unlike Diablo, are only available for open world content and not accessible in dungeons and raids, which is important because…
Re:Legion will also have its own form of Mythic+ style content, in honor of its introduction in the expansion! The new Timeworn Keystone Dungeons will pull from the affixes originally available in Legion and add four new ones to the pool for Remix, called Eternus’s Trials. For those who have forgotten, the following affixes were initially in Legion, applied at differing key levels: Fortified and Tyrannical, Bolstering, Raging, Sanguine, and Teeming, and Necrotic, Overflowing, Skittish, and Volcanic.

Infinites research and infinite rewards
In ReMists, the Infinite Dragonflight took a much more passive approach to their observances, and we only really interacted with them to trade bronze for goodies. This time, they are turning to us for help studying the Legion timeline with a new quest system: the Infinites Research. Similar to the weekly quest choice system introduced in Dragonflight, you’ll choose one “research assignment” from four options every day; these options (from apparently over 100) include things like killing the Burning Legion’s seemingly-infinite demons around the isles, collecting orbs while Skyriding, running a normal dungeon, completing a chapter in a zone’s campaign, and even collecting local resources like herbs and ores.
The weekend warriors among us are probably shouting right now, and we have good news. First, you won’t need to check for a research quest daily — there will be an option to bank “up to six days of quests that you can do when you’re ready to take them on.” I am curious how this will combine with another facet that you can unlock access to — the ability to take on multiple quests at once. Will there be a cap to quests per week? Or can we just… go ham?
In return for completing your daily research quest, you’ll earn a Cache of Infinite Power. These caches contained bronze, scrolls of random powers (like an ad-hoc summoning portal), and power gems in ReMists, and we’re guessing that will also be true in Re:Legion. Bronze is returning as the Remix currency (argh), but upgrades will drop from all Remix content instead of being locked to your bronze pool (phew).

Okay, but what’s the sweet, sweet loot?
Otherwise, available loot is still up in the air — after all, according to Blizzard’s post “it wouldn’t be a Remix event without lots and lots of loot to collect.” Presumably, this means we can expect an absolute slew of drops from all content (right, Blizzard?), with the included caveat that “harder content will provide a higher drop chance for upgrades.” But the non-gear-related reward list is pretty hefty too:
- Fel-infused class mounts
- Azshara-inspired robe transmog
- Mannaroth’s shield transmog
- Varian’s Fel-corrupted swords
- Never-before-released mounts and transmog sets
- Legacy rewards — rare raid transmogs (Xavius’s shoulders, the Scythe of the Unmaker in three colorways) and rare mounts (the Llothien Prowler, Shackled Ur’zul, and Violet Spellwing)
- New titles — “Chronoscholar,” “the Infernal,” and “of the Infinite Chaos”

Sorry Dractyhr fans — Evokers need not apply
We did wonder how the Dracthyr Evokers would be integrated into Re:Legion and sadly, we have the answer. Timerunner characters can be created from “one of the original 12 Legion classes,” officially leaving Evokers off the list. It’s a bummer, but it makes sense — not only would three new artifacts have to be crafted up for this activity, but they’d have to add an entire Order Hall with associated story arc for the class, plus a class mount (and a fel-infused one, too). This would be a significant lift assigned to a team in a brand new expansion. Trying to work it into a timed event? Apparently that’s a line for Blizzard.
But still, even with only 12 of the 13 WoW classes, Re:Legion players will not be bored! There’s a lot coming down the pike, with “a portion of Legion Remix” available for testing on the 11.2.5 PTR.
So get ready friends — Re:Legion will be here soon, and it’s looking to keep us busy!
