The Queue: Fine art
I went to a local art vendor thing this weekend, and this was the standout piece of the whole thing. Look at this cat, it’s so close to being Bacardi, it’s uncanny! This is a large piece too, roughly the size of a 75″ television. A true statement piece to really tie any room together.
I’d love to have a picture of me holding Bacardi up beside it to show that it was hanging in my home now. Unfortunately, it was also 2,750 Canadian dollars. As I don’t have 2,750 Canadian dollars currently set aside for cat paintings, I didn’t buy it. Liz also seemed hesitant to gift me the money as an advance on my next several years of Queues… So alas, I am left without a giant cat to hang upon my wall.
While I go and put together a team of renowned art thieves for a totally unrelated job, it’s time for — The Queue!
Q4tQ: Random thought occured to me, I live in a pretty rural town, and all of my favorite zones in games tend to be the ones that are as far away from major cities as possible. The more remote and desolate the place, the more cozy it feels when there is a small inn or cottage for my character to rest in. Think there is any correlation between where someone lives and their prefered locations in games?
Oh sure, but I feel like there’s usually more of an opposites situation going on. You live in a rural area, so you use the game to experience big city life. As someone who doesn’t live in New York, having played several different Spider-Man video games, I do feel like I’ve gotten a good feel for the city.
Liking the peace and solitude of rural areas could be a big factor in liking fantasy settings in general. Since even the most bustling cities in your typical fantasy setting don’t usually come close to the real world. Your love of camping in Desolace could be seen as familiar ground for yourself. It’s also much easier to have all of your needs met in a video game, so the wide open spaces can be more appealing when you don’t need to be travelling days at a time to buy fresh groceries or to see the latest movie.
What kind of music does Shadowheart listen to?
Evanescence and P!nk.
Less than an hour from home and a major ass-storm just showed up. So I’m sitting in a gas station parking lot waiting for the storm to pass. Ask me anything!
Please consider all of these for your next Queue.
What was the last concert you saw in person?
What concert would you most want to see now?
What’s your pettiest, most insignificant thing that you would run for political power to change?
If you wound up in Oz, would you try to overthrow the Wizard in the Emerald City, or would you just join up with the Lollipop Guild?
What are your thoughts on the state of Diablo 4? If you’re playing it currently, what would you like to see? If you’re not, what would get you to return/start?
Do you think we’ll ever get Void Elf architecture?
I know they’re a more mobile group that relies on temporary settlements, but I really think the new Blood Elf architecture in Midnight would look amazing in dark purple and bronze.
Oh, most definitely. I would be surprised if every playable race didn’t get major building blocks in housing eventually. The problem is that eventually, though. There are a lot of parts to add to this system, and always going to be more that players want from it. So yeah, I bet that if you can see it in game, odds are good that at least a few pieces of it are going to be added for you to play with.
This could also lead to more players wanting a dye-ing system for their housing assets and transmogs. It’s been long enough. Is that the next big fight in individual customization for players? With Housing coming, there are a lot of people who spent a lot of time wanting a thing who will have a bunch of time to redirect. Maybe we’ll finally get the groundswell of public desire for being able to tweak the colors on your armor!
Just as long as they tackle the truly important issues first.
Q4tQ: what sort of games do you want to like but can’t quite seem to get into?
Asking because I looked into Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, and aesthetically it seems like something I’d really like, but I’m very iffy on tactical stuff. Just reading through the info on how the Schism heroes’ abilities affect things kind of boggled my mind. So now I’m just really hoping it gets a demo so I can see if I can actually enjoy it or if it’s too number-crunchy for me.
Isometric RPGs seem to be the biggest ones recently. I just can’t deal with the turn-based combat having so many fiddly systems behind it. I bounced off Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader pretty hard, and that was even after turning the difficulty down to story mode. I just couldn’t get a properly good hang of the progression/talents/skills and how to properly leverage them into victory. I look at Baldur’s Gate 3 and see a lot of the same sort of stuff going on beneath the hood and just know in my heart of hearts that it’s likely not for me. Maybe I’ll give it a shot one day if it pops up on GamesPass, but I’m not ready to commit dollars to finding out.

Today’s Bacardi is reaching a paw out in friendship. At least I think that’s friendship, maybe it’s greed, or malice. Cats can be tricky to read sometimes. Either way I’m sure you’re in for some extra good loot in your vaults this week if you can figure out just what he’s looking for.
