The Queue: It’s fall, y’all

If there’s one thing I’m ready for it’s Player Housing. If there’s two things I’m ready for, it’s Player Housing and fall.

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us the questions and ugh, do we have to answer? It’s still so hot.

We are slowly coming to the time of year when it is the perfect time to bundle up in some soft sweatshirts and blankets and bring out the hammock, with a book and a big mug of cocoa (in a spillproof travel mug). Fall is the best, it’s my favorite, and it has the audacity to keep being in the mid-80s. Just insufferable.

It’s funny though, because I don’t even realize I’m craving fall, and then I’ll step back and look at something like my weekly meal plan. It’s gone from stuff like cold sesame noodles and yogurt and big salads for dinner to stuff like soups and hot pastas and stuff I have to run the oven for. It’s not even intentional. It just happens. Anyway, last night we had spaghetti and meatballs and tonight we’re doing enchiladas, and I have plans to make a big pot of chili for the first time in months next week, so. It’s about that time, let’s get on with it.

It’s funny because most of the collabs they’ve done to date are just not in my particular wheelhouse. The closest was the Le Sserafim collab way back when. They have come close with the Cowboy Bebop collab, but I was more of a Sailor Moon girlie. They also got very close with Dokiwatch, which seems like it’s in the neighborhood of that kind of fluffy, girly, legally distinct Sailor Moon. I’m not sure which way these collabs go, whether the IP pays Overwatch to represent them in the game or if Overwatch is paying a licensing fee to use the official IP. But either way, the contrast between actual IP collab and legally distinct homage is an odd one to think on.

And also I don’t know that there is an IP I’m such a fan of that it would be an instant purchase. Though, this is with the caveat that I’ve bought several skins and pets and stuff due to charity tie-ins, like Pink Mercy.

It’s definitely a day one buy for me.

I’m a little hesitant about it, because the deeply lonely vibe is what I dig about Pacific Drive, and if you have another confirmed entity there, even if they’re eldritch and creepy then you’re not quite so lonely. Much of the narrative team is back, so I’m not dismissing it out of hand. I do love horror, even the gory slightly schlocky stuff, and I like driving games, so this is still right up my alley even if it were a completely new and different game. If it diverges too much, or changes the story I fell in love with, I can always just headcanon that this is a different continuity or whatever.

I also kind of take issue with the idea that, once a game is popular it has to go on forever. A complete narrative experience that ends is fine. Though I do think it somewhat likely this idea was already in place well before Pacific Drive released — it’s only been out for a year and a half or so, and they’ve pushed several large updates in the meantime.

I don’t live where there are seagulls, so one.

Though we did have a couple of carolina wrens get into the house in the space of about a month, and I was deeply suspicious after that second time.
