The Queue: A great day for Cory, and therefore, the world

It was my birthday! I’m another year older and maybe wiser… maybe. Let’s not be hasty.

It was a great weekend of fun times with my favoritest person ever. I still have another day off, and I’m going to enjoy it by *checks notes* voting in my city election and running a car-related errand? Is that right? Dang, being older is lame. At least I have cake!

While I eat another piece of my delcious peanut butter cake, it’s time for — The Queue!

MOVEWOW THEY’RE GONNA CLEAN UP YOUR LOOKS WITH ALL THE LIES IN THE BOOKS

Have a good weekend everyone.

Q4TQ: Cory’s question number #1 from MoveWoW: How was your weekend?

It was great! My lady spoiled me and took me to so many Halloween-themed things! We did drinks at a fancy cocktail bar, saw some amazing carved pumpkins, and wandered around a variety of haunted houses while drinking warm drinks. We even got to sit in an old theater and watch some classic horror trailers — Vincent Price’s House on Haunted Hill and The 30 Foot Bride of Candy Rock were the real standouts there. I also got a delicious cake that was basically a giant Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, and we wandered around a toy and comics collectible show/market. I didn’t buy the $60 Diablo Funko Pop or the $150 Homer stealing the Lard Lad donut display — but it was still a great time! I have noticed less and less Blizzard stuff at events like this, though. All I really saw today was the Diablo Funko, two different vendors with beat-up Cataclysm collectors boxes, and the official Overwatch Reaper statue where he’s doing his Die Die Die ultimate.

I also played a bunch of BallxPit, and ooh bo,y is that an addicting game. It’s such a simple combination of brick-breaking and roguelikes, but it also feels really fun — and has a quick enough gameplay loop that the “one more turn” really gets its hooks into me. I can do one more run, surely, it’s only ten minutes…

So all in all, a fantastic weekend that really is all thanks to my favoritest person, and I feel very lucky.

MUSEDMOOSE THEY’RE GONNA RIP UP YOUR HEADS YOUR ASPIRATIONS TO SHREDS

Q4tQ: I know we’ve all seen people use names for their characters from other media, but do you ever see characters with names from the same media grouped together? Asking because I just killed a world boss in Diablo IV along with characters named Gandalf, Mythrandir, and Galadriel. I don’t know if they were in a group or not.

That does sound like a group. The odds of running into a random grouping of names like that are so small. Not impossible, this is video games and nerd culture together, but infinitesimal.

I think the bigger reason why you don’t see name groupings like this from friend groups is just the hassle of getting all of your friends together to do it. The bigger the pop culture reference, the more people you need online making it happen, and people are busy! I’m not saying you couldn’t convince your entire Warcraft guild to start up new characters all with a theme, but I bet by the second week, half of them have been abandoned because mains are more fun.

THEY SAID, “ALL SOEROAHS SCARE THE LIVIN’ SHH OUT OF ME”

Do you consider housing to be a Midnight feature?

Personally, since we know they’ve had a team working on Housing since around Legion/early BFA, it’s hard for me to think of it as a Midnight feature specifically so much as an evergreen feature that just happens to be launching alongside Midnight

Oh yeah, Midnight is forever going to be the housing expansion. Just like Dragonflight always will be the dragonriding/dynamic flight expansion to me. Even if housing has been in the works for a hot minute, it’s only going to matter once it’s in people’s hands. It will also bear the weight/glory of housing’s failure/success as a mechanic. If it turns out that housing lands like a lead balloon, then Midnight will suffer for its association, but conversely, it can be held up as the expansion where everything changed for the better if housing turns out really well.

I think much like Guild leveling, housing’s long-term success will really be up to how well the Warcraft developers want to keep iterating and adding content to it. At least without meaningful power tied to your house, we won’t run into the same issues that guild perks had, like “Have group, will travel” being able to pull entire world pvp groups onto the objective for a quick flip.

SO DARKEN YOUR CLOTHES, OR STRIKE A VIOLENT POSE MAYBE THEY’LL LEAVE YOU ALONE, BUT NOT KALCHEUS

Q4tQ Besides celebrating Cory’s birthday, what are you planning to do this weekend?

There were things other than my birthday?!?

I just assumed that it was celebrated across the whole world! Have I been misled?

THE BOYS AND GIRLS IN THE CLIQUE THE AWFUL NAMES THAT THEY STICK YOU’RE NEVER GONNA FIT IN MUCH, HIGH DENSITY WAFFLE

Q4Q: Would going back in time 10 years and changing the future create a time paradox that would doom us all? idk time travel law

There are so many different time travel laws that it’d take a whole year’s worth of Queues to try and puzzle all of this out. Personally, I’m of the mind that time is pretty good at self-correcting the big stuff, so just do little things and keep to yourself, and you’ll probably be fine. Like sure, remember some winning numbers/stocks/sports teams and make a nice little pile of money, but then just go and live in a mansion somewhere having fun and not trying to change the world, and the timeline will probably turn out basically the same. It’s when you start trying to make big changes that things really get weird, and Time is probably like “hey, that guy’s not supposed to be there, let’s drop a rock on their fancy mansion.”

At least it’s likely to be fast.

BECAUSE THE DRUGS NEVER WORK THEY’RE GONNA GIVE YOU A MEMENTH

Also … how did our shadowlands have garys soul when he died on alt draenor

It was my understanding that the Shadowlands pulled souls from all realities, worlds, and timelines, so it didn’t matter that Garrosh was in the past on alternate Draenor; he still wound up in the Maw.

Sadly, that was a great opportunity for Shadowlands to get weird with things and show us some more alternate versions of events and other random characters, and we never got that. I can see them wanting to keep it more grounded storytelling-wise and not get too wild, but at least give us one fun dungeon with alternate stuff in it!

Today’s picture of Bacardi is him showing off his nerd bona fides. Not only does he have the limited edition Doom: The Dark Ages Xbox controller, but look at that cheep-cheep framed up behind him. He is a nerdy cat through and through, which can only be good for your chances at loot since he knows how important it can be to get the shiny stuff.
