The Queue: I’m so sleepy

It’s been a busy weekend, and now we’re here on Monday. I could go for another few hours of sleep, but alas, it’s not in the cards.

I’m sure I’ll perk up once I get a good helping of the free food at work today. Free food makes everything better.

While I go and pour myself another coffee, it’s time for — The Queue!

TELWAR’LL BE SINGIN’ WHEN TELWAR’RE WINNIN’

Mildly annoyed, forgot bread at the grocery because I thought I had some in the freezer. I did not.

OTOH, there was a line at the self checkout and I got the machine that didn’t do cash back, so I guess I get to go again later.

Unlike Kal, I won’t suggest you go and kick off a years-long bitter feud between yourself and an uptight lawman who can’t let things go. I’ll just say that while I understand that frozen bread is still mostly good, I just so much prefer that second trip to get a fresh loaf. It’s just so much better!

Q4tQ: what’s the longest you’ve gone from deciding to stop playing a game to giving it another try? Because I’m currently reinstalling Final Fantasy XIII, and according to Steam, tomorrow marks seven years since I last played it.

I don’t even remember how far I got in FF13…

I know I played some of it, but I kept getting my party messed with because of story reasons, and I got annoyed. Also, all of those long corridors weren’t exciting when I wanted a big, open-world kind of game. I’ve never gone back to it, though, so I can’t even put a time to it like you have.

I recently bought the remake of the Dawn of War, though, and while I didn’t stop playing it because I didn’t like it, that is a game that I’ve come back to close to 20 years later. I still love massing up big piles of Orks and attack-moving my way to victory. Who needs tactics when you’ve got da boyz.

The only thing I can think of that I came back to even longer apart was Dragon Age: Inquisition. I initially didn’t jive with it back when it first came out, but Liz and Matt kept talking about it so fondly that I had to go back and give it another shot. It was good. I was a young fool when I didn’t play it.

…I’m not sure what to do now.
am I done with Remix?

Is it time to remix your Remix experience by leveling another class? I hear that they go pretty quickly now. Maybe you don’t really want to play with the new Fel mount tints today, but what about tomorrow or the tomorrow after that? What about the surprise Demon-inspired sets in Midnight raid tier three, where you’ve got just the coolest green armor that needs a really cool green mount to ride on? You’ll be kicking past Red so hard.

VALENCEMAGI DRINKS A LAGER DRINK

So I watched the John Mulaney bit about how he was addicted to drugs to the point he went out to buy a Rolex to immediately pawn it for cash for drugs.
The ad system has decided this means I desperately want to spend thousands of dollars on jewelry, because now it’s like half the ads I get. That and designer purses.

Online ads are so weird. This thought rattles around in my head every time I’m listening to a music streaming service that I don’t have a premium account on and get served an ad for some luxury car company. The most recent was for Lincoln or Mercedes. While I’m sure that both companies have much going for them in terms of luxury vehicles, even if I’ve heard that Lincolns can be money pits up there with Jaguars, I don’t know why they think that someone who doesn’t spend eight to 13 dollars a month on an ad-free music experience is going to want a brand new luxury sedan. Even if I won a big lottery draw tomorrow, I’d still more likely get something silly like a fully tricked-out Mini Cooper — blame the Italian Job.

Q4TQ: I’ve sacrificed everything. What have you given?!?

I dunno, I gave almost six dollars in pocket change as a tip to a pizza delivery driver tonight, how does that line up on the Illidan to Gul’dan sacrificial scale? I’ve sacrificed so much sleep in order to play more games and read more books, too. Does that get me anything? Other than these bags under my eyes, I mean.

THOMAS STRANGE SINGS THE SONGS THAT REMIND HIM OF THE GOOD TIMES

Q4tQ (weekend edition)
When do you think we’ll get the 2026 Roadmap?

a) Sometime this week, before the anniversary starts.
b) When the anniversary event starts.
c) Dec 2, when patch 11.2.7 launches
d) After Dec 2, but before Winter Veil.

I’m betting that we won’t see it until the new year, so none of the above. At this point, with the beta going, we know that Midnight is soon™, and they’ll be able to give us a better roadmap if they wait until there’s more concrete information about when exactly it is coming out. So much of it would be vagueries right now, even more so than usual, I mean.

TELWAR SINGS THE SONGS THAT REMIND HIM OF THE BETTER TIMES

QftQ: How many playlists do you have saved?

I have precisely one, very long playlist for my long car road trips to Kentucky, starting with the BattleTech OST, going into some Two Steps from Hell, and ending with Gladiator. Lady Friend said these would have put her to sleep if she was driving.

So I’ll probably make another one for her.

I have a handful saved, maybe even two handfuls. Mostly, it’s things like my Spotify Wrapped and some other nonsense that has crossed my path, like a massive sea shanty one or the Peacemaker season one playlist that has all of James Gunn’s music picks from across the season. There is also Cory’s Earworm playlist, which only got to 40 songs before it stopped getting updates. Every once in a while, I think I should go back and redo it with the whole list, but that also feels like it might take more than a hot minute, and would be an incredibly silly way to spend an afternoon.

MOVEWOW GETS KNOCKED DOWN BUT MOVEWOW GETS UP AGAIN

Q4TQ: Number 4 for Cory. Kalcheus was talking music today. It got me thinking about how a AI generated song has been at the top of the Country and Western charts for several weeks. Going forward how do we know we’re getting the real Cory and not a AI generated one?

I was just talking about AI with my lovely lady friend the other night, and I remarked on how much I hated gen AI in any form and how ghoulish it was that there was a company trying to make AI versions of your loved ones so that you could talk to them forever. This whole thing was spurred on by a company using a picture of a dog, obviously created with AI, on its window display, and I said that I would rather see every cat in the world twice before ever wanting to see an AI-generated picture of a cat — maybe even three times. A sentiment that I think I am not alone in sharing with the rest of the writers on BlizzardWatch and, more importantly, with Liz. I could see the heat death of the universe coming long before she ever spun up CoryAI to write Queues.

Besides, there’s no way that any AI version of me would have such great in-earworms. It’d probably try and sell you on soulless garbage country songs written by its AI comrades.

Today’s Bacardi is just as sleepy as I am! Better boop him quick so he can get back to his nap, and dreams of shiny loot for you.

I hope you all have a nice and relaxing day to start off your week. Make sure to leave Anna with lots of questions for tomorrow so she can have more time to relax, too.
