The Queue: Space World War 1

Honestly, between the trench warfare. the weird poison gas that powers everything (so it’s like a combination of the rise of tanks and aircraft and the use of mustard gas) and the aesthetic of things like the big air cooled machine guns, it feels like Obsidian was making Battlefield 1 in the Outer Worlds setting.

So it’s an extremely satirical, science fiction analogy for The Great War, and it’s surprisingly good at displaying how great it really wasn’t.

KALCHEUS OUT OF CONTEXT

You’re history’s greatest monster!

You’re making me blush. But also, in a world where Pol Pot, Elizabeth Bathory, that Austrrian art school dropout, Vlad Tepes and every billionaire exist, I am at best History’s greatest underachiever.

THOMAS STRANGE

I’ve been enjoying WoW, and really enjoying Remix.
But…

I’m at that point where I crave more and different. Haranir druids will be good, and I long for forsaken paladins and blood elf / nightborne druids. But I want more than ogres and ethereals, naga and arakkoa! I want crazy classes like necromancer, astromancer, something with flame throwers and laser and bombs! Just… something else.

Honestly, I think that’s why I’m playing the heck out of The Outer Worlds 2 lately. It’s not that WoW is bad, it’s that I’m just in need of something new much like you said. As strange as the satirical edge of TOW2 is, it’s something that is speaking to my poor damaged brain right now.

Also, I would really love it if we had a class in WoW that carried ridiculously clunks guns around. Kind of like Republic Troopers from Star Wars The Old Republic, maybe. Especially if they had a healing spec that heals people by shooting them with a giant minigun.

ARTHONOS

Q4tQ: if the option is there, do you enable CRT filter mode when playing classic games?

Naah. When I play old games (played a lot of Neverwinter Nights recently) I do very little to make them feel or look retro. I mean, it’s a game from 2002, I’m not trying to recreate lost youth or anything. I’m just playing old games so I don’t have to spend money I don’t have on new ones.

TETSEMI

Now that we have Housing coming in WoW, are there any features/systems you like to see Blizzard iterate on next and/or are there any systems you’d borrow from another game and put into WoW?

Features/Systems I’d like to see iteration on:

  • Classes — I know that the whole deal with Warbands is to make having alts be as painless as possible, but I still want WoW to steal the way other games use a job system to  let you essentially switch everything while keeping on your primary character. I’d love to see Warriors get a 2h ranged weapon spec, like the aforementioned Republic Trooper from SWTOR.
    • Alternatively, just let players change classes with a respec.
  • Reforging — I don’t want people to have to play stat Jenga again, use a spreadsheet and specific sites to configure all the stats on their gear to hit certain targets. But I definitely think a system that lets you have more control over the stats you have on your gear could make a comeback.
  • New Weapon Types — I will never stop trying to get them to realign the weapon types, like one handed spears, pistols, and of course a gatling laser that heals people.

Okay, so that’s the Queue for today. Have fun, people celebrating a holiday today.
