The Queue: Player Housing Waiting Room
The daily Q&A column on a day where we all know both the A and the Q, and we’re just waiting for it to happen, is the most liminal space on the internet. It’s just that day, and eventually we’ll get to do the thing. For now, we’re all here, transitory, waiting.
Q4tQ
I swear I haven’t seen a direct statement on this, but I’ve been working awfully hard lately :c Might have missed it.
If you have a Horde character, can your Alliance character use items the Hordie has earned?
So, on the one hand I haven’t seen any items which are specifically restricted to one faction character or housing plot. Given how housing works, faction restricting just doesn’t fully make sense. You can have up to two houses, and they can be visited (and decorated) by characters on either faction. It wouldn’t make sense to say “hey, this cool spike is Horde only!” when the only real barrier that would pose is forcing you to relog onto an alt to place that spike. That goes double for stuff like faction unlocks — can you imagine having to relog to place something because you’re not like, exalted with the Golden Lotus or Kirin Tor or Mechagon or whatever?
I’m not going to full on say “no absolutely not in any case ever,” because it’s tough to prove a negative, and I haven’t been exhaustive in looking into the entire item database. But more or less, yeah, the decor you collect can be used by all your characters.
I feel like I have forgotten….
is there a good add on for housing related stuff? like a collection helper or anything? trying to get prepared
We have several (and then some) posts about housing, but the one you’re looking for is our post involving tools and addons for player housing.
Q4tQ Do you plan on running Turbulent Timeways during the next ten weeks or will you be too focused on housing?
Man, I’m still trying to get to the end of the Pacific Drive DLC that was released before Halloween. Plus, I have to “decorate” my “player house” for the holidays, by which I mean my actual house, including a bunch of yardwork before I can start climbing ladders outside. I’ll be lucky if I can secure my housing plot before Midnight launches.
Q4TQ: Are the changes to Skyriding coming in the patch tomorrow good?
Eh? They’re okay? I’ll be honest, I barely really noticed them while I was playing in the beta, but then I was mostly just flying from point A to point B — I didn’t try racing or anything — so I wasn’t being particularly cutting edge with it, keeping track of cooldowns or whatever. I like that taking off doesn’t consume a charge anymore, but I’m usually not really keeping track of charges unless I’m really trying to minimax flying.
Q4tQ: what is the mysterious giant tower in the desert?
Cynically, a pretty big financial windfall for Geoff Keighley. Also cynically, a pretty big ecological speedbump in a remote location very close to the Joshua Tree national park. Love to go experience a unique natural phenomenon and find a hunk of crumbling molded cement loaded with plastic LEDs and lithium batteries used to try to create a viral marketing campaign for a video game.
As to what it’s actually marketing, probably the next Diablo 4 expansion. There are rumors that it’s going to be announced at Keighley’s Schmemmys in a couple weeks (which would explain the weirdly abrupt announcement for the Midnight release date). There are very few games which pair weird melty demons and realistic animals besides Diablo. Most games go for one or the other. Were it not for the animals, I’d guess DOOM, and were it not for the melty demon bits I’d guess Elder Scrolls. The part that lights up seems very reminiscent of Mephisto’s appearance in Heroes of the Storm.
Plus, there are very few game companies that have the money for the kind of marketing that would see a massive sculpture transported to the middle of the desert, and the social media astroturfed footprint to actually disseminate that information. Also, Blizzard has done marketing with weird real life tie-ins in an attempt to go viral before, specifically for Diablo, where they painted a cathedral in France all demonic. So. Probably the D4 expansion announcement.
Q4tQ what is for dinner tonight?
Cheese and black bean enchiladas with roasted cumin sweet potatoes. I’m usually done with the assembly by the time the oven is done preheating, then stuff just goes in until it’s done. Per usual, I’ll also add some chopped pickled jalapeno to mine at the end, because I love spice and peppers.
