The Queue: Hockey!

In a big surprise, Blizzard sponsored the Saturday night Edmonton Oilers game. Even more surprising was that they invited me to attend as their guest! I got my first-ever taste of the luxury box lifestyle thanks to Midnight. I ate jumbo shrimp, drank delicious drinks, and got to watch a great game of hockey with my favorite person, and another local Warcraft content creator, Kesslive. There were even some Blood Elves in attendance! They were kept pretty busy filming some fun stuff around the arena and appearing on a celebrity lookalike segment, but I did manage to get a picture with them (forgive me for Instagram’s terrible cropping).

This was truly the weirdest thing I’ve ever gotten to do, thanks to World of Warcraft, and I’m very thankful to the team at Blizzard who made it happen. A little birdy has told me that there’ll be another sponsored Oilers game in March, and I’m crossing my fingers really hard that I get another invite for that one. Also, if anyone on the Warcraft team is reading this and wants to come up with something weirder for me to do as a promotion, I’m game.

While I savor the memory of the Oilers victory (and the jumbo shrimp), it’s time for — The Queue!

SAY YOUR PRAYERS, LITTLE ONE, DON’T FORGET, MY SCUNOSI, TO INCLUDE EVERYONE

Happy Protomen Act III release party day to all who celebrate, which includes me!

Hooray!

I can’t believe that after all of this time, it’s actually, finally done! The thought of a Megaman rock opera was so weird back in the early 2010s, but now I can’t imagine anyone else doing it better. It’s such a passion project for them, I’m not surprised that there haven’t been other people trying to do their own rock operas based on other video game projects.

In the meantime, I’m gonna go listen to Calling Out again.

RETPALLYJIL SLEEP WITH ONE EYE OPEN GRIPPING YOUR PILLOW TIGHT

Q4tQ:

It’s a bit hard to explain what I mean, but I’ll try!

Is there a way to “reset” the grid to lock with the way your house is facing?
Failing that, is there a way to lock items to your home the way things lock to a table?

This does seem frustrating. I wish I had an answer for you, but alas, I’ve got nothing. Maybe the extra visibility of including this here will bring some extra eyeballs who can help reorient grids.

ARTHONOS TAKE MY HAND WE’RE OFF TO NEVER-NEVER LAND

Q4tQ: When playing Metroidvania type games, do you return to previous areas every so often to see what upgrades you can find with whatever new abilities / items you’ve discovered, or do you purposely avoid going back until much later when you’ve unlocked everything so you only have to make one pass to grab those upgrades?

I’m usually going back as soon as possible, I like those sweet sweet upgrades. It also helps that I’ve usually seen the door/passage that I couldn’t get through and tried to get through it for a minute or two recently. The fresher memory helps me know where to go for the sweet sweet upgrades. I get the efficiency allure of fully completing the area in one pass, but what if I get something really overpowered by backtracking a little earlier on! The anticipation kills me more than the monsters.

SOMETHING’S WRONG, SHUT THE LIGHT HEAVY THOUGHTS TONIGHT AND THEY AREN’T OF KALCHEUS

Q4tQ What do you think the sequel to K Pop Demon Hunters is going to be about? I’m thinking it’s Zoey-focused and they go to Burbank in an attempt to win over the US.

I haven’t seen K Pop Demon Hunters, beyond all of the people dressed up as them on Halloween, so I have no deeper insight to any potential sequel. However, they’re definitely gonna go and hang out with some J Pop stars right? Then they can go tackle the pop stars of the US for the third movie.

HUSH, LITTLE KALCHEUS, DON’T SAY A WORD

Q4tQ If Blizz put in a full leveling experience campaign — starting at level 90 doing selected campaign quest chains of every expansion — would you do it? You don’t actually level until you complete it (your ilvl and gear grows based on a process similar to what happens in Remix)

I’m of two minds about this. I do like the classic leveling while getting incrementally stronger and better gear bit by bit, so that by the end, you can look back at yourself from the beginning and see your progress. A trail of replaced common, magic, rare, and epic items to show where you’ve been. Plus, how else would you get the awesomely annoying thing where you just get a piece of gear you’re sure will last you for a while so you splurge and enchant it with something, only to replace it literally three minutes into your next dungeon.

It’s the way of the world (of Warcraft) and is good for a reason.

However, modern Warcraft has done a poor job of keeping that style of gameplay truly relevant. Either you’re leveling a fresh alt, and you blow past a gear threshold without realizing it, and now everything out scales you, or there just isn’t enough time spent leveling to max in a new expansion, which is even worse, coming into a fresh expansion fully tricked out and hanging onto a piece or two all the way to max level. I know I’ve been guilty of that, even when the developers scale things more aggressively. Sometimes you just have a really fun trinket and don’t want to put it on the shelf quite yet.

So yeah, if there was a non-scaling way to experience the story until you get to max level, and all of those gear upgrades will be made at the end when you’re not going to be able to replace them quite as easily, I’m here for it.

KALCHEUS NEVER MIND THAT NOISE YOU HEARD IT’S JUST THE BEASTS UNDER YOUR BED

Q4tQ Would Arthas had been taken less seriously if the very forests of Lordaeron had whispered the name Rufus instead?

He’d be such a good boy! No chance of a Lich King named Rufus.

You also wouldn’t get a Lich King with Steven, Joe, Alaistair, Hamish, Jeremy, or Declan. If you want a diet Lich King, a Lich King that’s still bad, but kinda ineffective, you’d have to name him something like Jeremiah, Clarence, Percival, Sonny, Craig, or Kevin. Amazingly, Murphy results in a much worse Lich King. Don’t ask me how.

DREAMS OF WAR, DREAMS OF RUKA DREAMS OF DRAGON’S FIRE

New housing request: The ability to leave notes at houses you visit. Like, a little mailbox or guest board at the entrance to each plot.

My initial response was influenced by a safety concern about how to prevent bad actors from being annoying with these kinds of messages, but then I realized that we can already send emails/messages to people, and they can simply use the same privacy settings. So yeah, let’s do the whiteboard on the dorm door thing and let people leave fun messages for you to see when you come back to your house. There are already so many ways to do that in-game, but this is a fun and fitting one that would add to the system so I say go for it.

Today’s Bacardi is posing ever so nicely with his little sushi toy. More amazingly, he went right back to sleep after this picture was taken, and the toy is still on him! That just shows how much focus he has on being rested up for getting you the best gear possible in your weekly vaults. Maybe kick him an extra shrimp along with a boop in thanks.
