The Queue: We are so much more than housing (but we like housing too)
I promise you that this isn’t becoming a site that’s only about player housing. But that doesn’t mean that we aren’t super obsessed with player housing and writing about other things might just slip our minds.
…was I saying something?
…oh, right, the Queue. Let’s get to it.
Q4TQ: With the new leveling system, and with delves, and with so many ways of getting gear, and now player housing could I come back and have WoW be a single player experience?
Absolutely. The main quests can be soloed, dungeons can be run with NPC followers at your own pace, and you can do a great deal of leveling and gearing in Delves on your own. Even raids, if you just want the story, you can do by yourself in Story Mode.
If you do need a little help to get something done, the group finder is a fast way to find other people for world quests, and if you want to do more of the raids, LFR is an option.
And now housing is all about you; it’s as social or as antisocial as you want it to be. You can even lock people out of setting a single foot on your neatly-manicured lawn if you’d like.
I’ve been trying all sorts of things with housing in WoW, and when I discovered how to move the entire house up and down, I was immensely amused as it was going up and down like a weird yo-yo! I would love to see lamps being placeable outside of the house, but aside from that, I am enjoying it immensely! :D
Funny story.
In the alpha, Taliesin made a garden of fire.
It did not go well and we have not been able to place lights outdoors since.
I do expect that at some point at least some lights will be allowed outside again, because some of the lights available are really designed to go outside. (Also these dimly lit Duskwood-style plots need some nice warm lights around the house.)
wait, you have to level each house individually?!?
crap on a stick of crap.
Yes but also no.
The activities that give you house XP are account wide, so both of your homes actually have the same amount of XP. However, your house doesn’t level up until you talk to the general contractor in the center of town to upgrade it, and until it is upgraded it will show the old level.
But the problem is simply that the interface is odd and clunky, not that you have to grind two sets of house XP.
So whenever you are upset about it, just tell yourself that you’re upset with your housing contractors not communicating clearly, which is just how any remodeling project goes.
Why did I choose the plot that is the absolute farthest away from the town center? >.<
I assume you prefer quiet and isolation. (At least until a neighbor moves in next door and builds a flying robot or something.)
But, really, there’s only a few things you need to go to town for: buying decor (which will likely slow down as we collect more things and need to buy less), leveling your house (occasionally), and making dyes. None of these are (probably) going to be everyday tasks, but having the perfect plot is forever.
Are there any beer steins/mugs Housing Decor in-game?
My Warrior isn’t a wine drinking kind of guy.
Go to the inn in your Garrison, the vendor there has mugs.
If you don’t have an inn in your Garrison, well, get to work on that. (It actually doesn’t take too long to get it going.)
Q4tQ:
On H-Day 1, I was able to change the color of my roof tiles.
Since then, I haven’t been able to do anything to my house. Are there level-locked exterior features to get alternate chimneys, towers, etc? I wiped out about half the stuff I had outside, but it doesn’t seem to be a points problem.
I think there may be things that will be level locked (some options have little lock icons next to them without any information on how to unlock them), but changing your roof color isn’t (or shouldn’t be) one of them. However the option to do so isn’t obvious: if you go to your plot and open the editor, you then have to click the “edit house exterior” button on the far right of the menu. That throws you into a barber-shop style interface that will let you change exterior options like roof type and color.
If that isn’t available, then you have run into a bug and you should report it.
I really disliked when MTV turned into nothing more than a reality TV channel. Now they’re shutting down their other dedicated music channels for just doing reality TV. I would be very sad if Blizzard Watch became nothing more than MTV Cribs. Say it isn’t so!
I promise you we will only obsess over housing for a percentage of every day. It will be fine.
Is it weird we’re saying Good-bye to the Bronze Dragons in remix when we still have like 40 days left?
Extremely weird. Does everyone on Azeroth just love long goodbyes? Is someone fishing for farewell gifts (and is it us)? Either way, we have over a month to go, but we’re starting our goodbyes now.
And that’s goodbye for now my friends. Have a great Wednesday and I’ll see you in the comments section.
