Fill your Player Housing bookshelves with books
Thanks to the advent of player housing, we can finally fill our house with that most important of things: books. Well, okay, first you need bookshelves to put those books on, but once you have them, you’ll discover something interesting: outside of a few shelves that come fully stocked like the Val’sharah Bookcase (and its oddly messy smaller subling) and the Secretive Bookcase Wall, many shelves come devoid of reading material. Don’t despair: that’s not a gap, that’s just an opportunity to look for more decor! Luckily, there’s quite a bit of decor that is one or more books, so here’s a quick rundown of where you can find them.
First off, if you want just a few neatly-stacked books, grab your supply of Resonance Crystals and head to your Renown vendors from The War Within. Auditor Balwurz, the Council of Dornogal Quartermaster, sells three sets of arranged books at Renown 15; you can spend 1000 Resonance Crystals apiece to get the Literature of Dornogal, Literature of Gundargaz, and Literature of Taelloch. Meanwhile, in western Hallowfall, Lars Bronmaelt, the Quartermaster for Light’s Radiance, will sell you a Collection of Arathi Literature at Rank 8. These are a little more expensive, at 1200 Resonance Crystals.
If you want a small stack of books instead of a neat row, you can pop down to Azj-Kahet and talk to Thripps to pick up a Kaheti Scribe’s Records. These cost 1500 Kej, rather than Resonance Crystals, but they also require you to complete the achievement Smelling History — which rewards a free copy! A similar item is also available back in Dragonflight from Provisioner Aristta of the Azerothian Archives faction; for 4000 Mysterious Fragments, the Studious Dracthyr’s Tomes can be yours.
You can also pick up a similar-looking item in your home city from a pair of Pandaren booksellers; Solelo in Stormwind and Lonalo in Orgrimmar both offer the Scribe’s Working Notes, in addition to a variety of single tomes. It’s worth mentioning, however, that these are limited supply — meaning if you need those specific books, you might have to camp the vendor for a bit. They were recently hotfixed to have books in stock more often, however, so hopefully you won’t have to wait long.
Lastly, let’s say you’ve got a real hankering for a long row of books, not just a few dusty tomes. You need to fill a whole bookshelf in a hurry, and you like color coordination. Well, good news and bad news: the good news is, there are three items that fit this description: Literature of the Red Dragonflight, Literature of the Blue Dragonflight, and Literature of the Green Dragonflight. (I guess the Black and Bronze Dragonflights aren’t into authorship.) The bad news is that getting these isn’t as simple as visiting a vendor: these are all crafted with Dragon Isles Inscription! Luckily, the materials are all rather reasonable: fifteen or sixteen Dragonpine Lumber (which anyone can gather), some vendor-purchased Glittering Parchment, and a smattering of inks from Dragonflight — the ink you need varies by which flight you’re crafting. Ask a friend with Inscription — they may even have those old inks lying around, which will set you well on your way to a sizable collection books for your shelves!
