The Queue: Accidentally level 80
I wasn’t trying to get a level 80 Warrior, it just kind of happened. I thought I would get in my Timewalking dungeons on a level 71 Warrior, and before I knew it I was level 80. I’m now the kind of person with a single max level Warrior, a completely normal thing to be. Right? Right. No one here would think that would be weird at all.
This is the Queue, our daily chit-chat Q&A column. Let’s see what’s going on.
Q4tQ: When picking your favorite game of the year, do you consider games released late in December, or only games you’ve finished?
2025 is 2025, even if the game comes out on December 31. However, if it does come out on December 31, none of us are likely to have much time to play it in 2025, so you have to draw a line somewhere.
I usually run behind the times. I don’t often play games right after they’re released; which makes the discussion kind of academic. The best game I played in 2025 could have been release a decade ago because I’ve just now getting around to it. (I still haven’t finished Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s on the list though!)
So, what’s my game of the year? I don’t know. I’ve played a lot of things but haven’t finished many, and I really enjoyed some things I haven’t looped back to finishing.
Maybe everyone here could tell me what your game of the year is and I could start there.
Strating to get a tad behind on Critical Role S4, I blame work. Gonna try to catch up a bit tonight.
I am also a couple of episodes behind, and when you are a couple of episodes behind on a show with four to five hour episodes you’re really behind. Fortunately the CR team is taking the holidays off and there won’t be a new episode until mid-January, so we both have time to catch up!
Q4tQ: do you ever do challenge modes or self-imposed challenges in games? Asking because I randomly got the idea of a single-character Octopath run, and ye gods that would be a bad time. 😱
Sometimes, but only with games I really enjoy anyway. For example, I’ve done full stealth runs of the two core Dishonored games, without killing anyone or being seen. I really enjoy both games and it’s a fun challenge. But for Death of the Outsider, I didn’t, because there was no achievement for it and no way to track it. (I actually tried, but got myself into a situation where I was spotted and wound up fighting a dozen guards, and it didn’t seem worth going back and restarting things after that.
I guess that answers whether I do self-imposed challenges — usually not. Having the framework of an achievement or something like that helps me stay focused on the goal. Rewards are nice, too, but for the full stealth achievement in Dishonored the only reward is a sense of deep satisfaction.
Q4tQ We’re 4 weeks away from Midnight prepatch. Are you prepared?
I am definitely not prepared. I have so much more to do in Legion Remix. I have so much housing stuff to collect! There is no end to my task list!!
My only consolation is realizing that at least some of you are probably in the same boat.
That’s all for this holiday afternoon. Matt will likely be in tomorrow with another Queue, but I told him he didn’t have to unless he felt like it — but I imagine you all can carry on chatting either way.
I’ll see you in the comments section.
