The Queue: Still in that Christmas mood (for a short while)
We’re still in the holiday mood for this week. We’re only shifting gears to “New Year woo!” next week. So I have decided, for no particular reason.
(Well, the reason was all the Christmas-related questions we got, and were still answering.)
Either way, This is The Queue, our daily Q&A slash discussion slash chat column, where you can ask questions (and hopefully get answers), chat with like-minded folks, or just read the words on the screen. You know it, you know it!
You can make a house and place your furniture on the ceiling, but is it possible to build your house exterior upside down?
Sadly, no, it isn’t. Only one of the 3 rotation options is active when you select your house, the one to make it spin parallel to the ground. No flipping it upside down!
QftQ: I had a little bit of lull this night, so I decided to try the new Exile’s reach. And I’m a bit underwhelmed. Thrall and Jaina just doesnt fit into the storyline ( new players won’t even know who they are by the end of this) and they don’t even play a part in the Dragon Isles expansion, which this zone leads new players to. The original was , in my opinion a better lead into the Alliance-Horde community, especially the end cinematics, which are now cut entirely. I loved the ending when we flied off the island while the airship was moving in, it was an epic cinematic moment. And it funnely automatically into the Waking Shore zone, which is odd, why not just Orgrimmar or Stormwind as usual? There we can have breadcrumb quests to go to the Dragon Isles if soemone wished?
So I’m a bit disappointed. What did you all think of the “revamped” zone? Have you tried it?
I haven’t tried the zone myself yet, but I did watch a video talking about the changes, and I agree that it’s weird. But I think I understand their intention, even if might not have had the best possible results.
Their idea is, most likely, to add recognizable characters to the intro experience, so that new and returning players get a taste of “World of Warcraft” right from the start. It’s easy for us, veteran players, to lose track of that, but the truth is that there’s a very large contingent of players who simply aren’t as well-versed in the lore or enamored with this world as we are. And for someone who doesn’t really “know” WoW, getting to spend some time with some of its biggest lore figures as soon as they begin playing does have some value.
That said, I agree that it feels a tiny little bit out of place. And I agree that the previous storyline was perfectly fine.
As for dropping player straight into the Waking Shore instead of the capital cities: that’s probably to ensure they keep going on the intended track, leveling in the “right” zones, instead of getting sidetracked (whether intentionally or not). From a “lead the players into the game” point of view, I get that too. It’s probably a valuable move to make sure players keep leveling and actually reach max level, instead of landing on a capital city and getting overwhelmed and/or lost. (Again, harder for veteran players to see, since all of this stuff seems so “obvious” to us.)
Since collision of decor items is pretty accurate, you can create rooms that are only accessible by shorter races.
Do with this information what you will.
My plans of Gnomish World Domination Via Embiggening The Entire World will finally come to fruition!!!
I haven’t been to Ironforge in… a year.
When did the guards start looking so fine?
Longer than a year, that’s for sure.
Fun fact: at this point, we’ve had the “new” character models longer than we had the original ones. Which is very, very weird to think about.
I do wonder if WoW needs new models. In general, I don’t think so, but there are a few specific models that could use updates.
Like, we could use updated male Night Elves at this point. Male Night Elves look so bad. Stiff and goofy, like they just don’t belong.
I think that’s why Fandral was so angry all the time. And why people don’t really take Malfurion seriously. And why Illidan was so emo.
Maybe male Night Elves should spend less time sleeping, and more time learning how to stand around.
Anyway, what were we talking about again?
Q4tQ Why are all the Death Knight Captains in Naxx Tauren?
Tauren big. Tauren intimidating. One wrong look from Tauren = ya know ya dun goof’d. Dead Tauren? Even worse!
Seriously, I don’t wanna sound like Garrosh, not even for a second!, but I don’t think they’d be nearly as effective in their whole spook campaign if they’d picked Blood Elves as captains!
(Naxx had a spook campaign, right? Well, they should’ve.)
Q4tQ: do you ever prank someone with their Christmas or other gift-giving-occasion present? Like placing a small gift inside a series of ever bigger boxes?
I can’t say I have, but last night my niece was super eager to open the gift with the Frozen paper… only to find out, to much disappointment, that it wasn’t for her. So I think someone ended up pranking her, totally by accident.
Speaking of wrapping paper, when she opened the gifts “from Santa” the next morning, she thought it was weird that “Santa used the same wrapping paper as grandma.” And she was also puzzled as to “why Santa put tags on the presents he made.”
Guys, I don’t think she’s getting visited “by Santa” anymore, starting from next year. F.
Q4tQ: did you ever notice that you can recite the classic poem “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” to the tune of Cake’s song “The Distance”?
I think it’s because they’re both written to have four “repeating parts” per verse, with each repeating part falling into the same “two weak syllables, one stressed syllable” pattern. So, mostly a rhythm thing, and probably not as uncommon as we think!
If you like Christmas so much, why don’t you Merry it?
I tried, but Christmas said they needed some space. Until December 25, 2026, at the very least.

This has been The Queue. Have you been a good boy/girl, or a naughty one, Queue? Either way, I hope the great bearded man in the sky thought it was a good idea to stop by your place for milk and cookies, and we hope he’ll repeat that strange ritual next year.
