The Queue: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like,
Yesterday Google told me that, despite “free unlimited backups for photos taken with this phone on Drive” being a whole selling point of the phone, I was now over my limit, somehow. So they immediately removed my ability to save any documents in Drive — which is kind of crucial for a writer! — or backup photos to the cloud, and told me they’re going to shut off the email address I’ve had for 20 years unless I start deleting stuff off the cloud. Should I blow away videos of my kids to be able to save the novel I’ve been working on for almost 2 years now? They do have a solution though — I could pay them a subscription for extra backup space. It’s a trifle, really.
So, of course, I’ve spent the last 24 hours converting everything I possibly can and burning everything google to the ground. Ente photos, Proton Mail, LibreOffice, and Scrivener all have my business now. As an added bonus, Scrivener’s corkboard system will likely replace a lot of what I use Notion for, which I’ve been trying to replace since they went so all-in on AI they told me I should make Dante’s Divine Comedy into an escape room.
This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us the questions and we’ll answer. We’re kind of busy though, and the answers will likely be petty and spiteful.
Hrm, QftQ: Did you use Legion class hall mounts regularly prior to Remix?
The only ones that I do are the shaman and mage mounts, which feel relatively unique / less common than the “oh look it’s a flying horse / winged thing.”. The rest I didn’t really like that much, they just seemed a little extra. Maybe if the rogue one could actually walk…
I use the Hunter Wolfhawk pretty extensively. It’s a beautiful mount, and my Hunter’s aesthetic is a relatively simple, outdoorsy one that doesn’t exactly match with many mounts, especially the ones capable of flight.
I also use my Monk’s relatively frequently, but I swap off it pretty often. The mount itself is gorgeous, but sometimes Ban-Lu’s voice lines every time you summon him get really grating.
Q4tQ: Think the Prey system should evolve to eventually have kaiju sized hunters coming after our character? It’s been awhile since we’ve had a good “I got squished by a Fel reaver” moment in WoW.
I haven’t played with the Prey system at all yet, but I think the best “final boss” for it would have to be yourself, as an Infinite assassin. I love all the possibilities the Infinites give the narrative, just in general, but given that I personally have killed, not only kings and strong beasts, but like, literal gods and the gatekeeper of death and I think there were a few planets in there at some point, it makes sense that the most powerful opponent I have now is just me, but later.
Q4tQ: Are you picking up any games from Steam Detective Fest?
I think I’m finally going to pull the trigger on Return of the Obra Dinn. I keep thinking I have it, and then don’t buy it during sales, and then when I go to find it I don’t have it. Also on the “don’t I already have this” list is Lucifer Within Us, which is at a “just buy this already or take it off your wishlist” price, I think like $2. Almost, but not quite making that list is Paradise Killer, which is under $5 and I almost purchased, but when I double checked it was in fact given away on Epic a while back so I already have it. I’ve had my eye on Loco Motive and Penelope Pendrick and the Art of Deceit for a while, so that’ll round out this purchase round.
For someone who has a lot to say about the admitted chaos that is my wishlist you sure do like guiding me by the hand toward themed lists of games I’d like to play don’t you.
