The Queue: Sometimes you just want to wreck things
Sometimes you wake up and want to watch the world burn. And sometimes you wake up and your inner kaiju wants to crash through Tokyo. It’s hard to say which force of destruction will manifest at any given time… but for now, I’m trying to think positive thoughts for the poor Warcraft server team, who was up all night trying to cajole WoW Classic into running. I hope you’ve scheduled some nap time into your day.
This is the Queue, our daily Q&A column where we answer your questions (and occasionally go on kaiju-related tangents). Let’s see what the comment section holds for us today, shall we?
Q4tQ Do you prefer Gundam or Kaiju?
Kaiju. I’ve just got a soft spot for giant monsters destroying cities. Sometimes you just feel like destroying things, and a city is just right there. It’s very relatable.
But also the kaiju are unknown, unknowable. A force of nature that is beyond control. Godzilla in particular, emerged not very long after WW2 and is a response to what Japan had gone through, presented as a giant irradiated lizard.
Gundam are human-controlled, for the most part. That makes them human-shaped things with human-shaped problems. A kaiju is always an “other,” a mystery.
Q4TQ: should Fel Ban Lu (from Remix) berate you and make fun of your mog every time you mount him?
He already calls me fat. What’s the evil Ban Lu supposed to do? Insult my haircut? Make snide comments about my shoes? Or is the “evil” Ban Lu actually the nice Ban Lu, who notices when you’ve gotten your haircut and tells you that your transmog looks especially good today?
So if I only have one mog, I’ll never have to spend money on mogging with the new system?
This is nearly correct. In the new system, you pay to unlock outfit slots and you pay to save an outfit to a slot (or change something that’s saved in a slot). Two outfit slots are unlocked by default. So if you just want to set one look and stick with it, you will pay to set the look and that’s it.
Everyone (like me) who likes to have lots of different looks and change them up should be aware that even after Blizzard reduced the costs of unlocking slots and saving outfits, the system is much more expensive than today’s transmog system, to the point that I am not excited about it, and will probably have to use it less than I do now. But outfits have some great new features, and they will save a ton of gold for players who do pick one perfect look and just want to keep it through gear upgrades.
That’s all for today friends. Take care of yourselves, try not to get attacked by any kaiju today, and I’ll see you in the comments section.
