The Queue: I just want to be a zergling
I was going to talk a lot about dinosaurs today, but then I ended up just discussing stuff you guys left in the comments.
Q4tRossiQueue: what do you think about the news that we might be getting a StarCraft shooter?
Based on that article, there may in fact be two such shooters in production, which in my opinion means that we won’t get either. This makes me sad.
I wish they’d just made that StarCraft MMO so I could be playing a Zergling right now.
Q4tQ What was your most memorable encounter with wildlife?
Back in 1994 I went on an Easter trip with a bunch of people I didn’t know because a girl I was crushing on invited me, which turned out about as well as you might expect. But during that trip, I went out into the Maine woods (we went to Maine) and while washing myself in a nearby incredibly cold stream, I heard a noise and looked up to see a full grown male moose. If you don’t know, moose bulls can be extremely territorial and I was, as you might expect, naked and shivering while trying to get my sweat encrusted body clean.
Luckily for me, the moose finished his drink and left. I staggered out of the stream, got dressed despite my shaking knees and chattering teeth, and waited to go home with all the patience of a man who had just nearly died and no longer felt much urgency about anything.
I don’t even remember her name.
Yeah, that had a huge “are we the baddies?” vibe
On the one hand, Talon as a fascist organization is very timely, and the fact that Vendetta is talking a lot like Mussolini in that video feels deliberate. All she needs is to say that she’ll get the trains running on time.
On the other hand, I kind of preferred Talon as a behind the scenes manipulator that occasionally dabbled in smacking Overwatch in the face. This more over jackboots and We bring order through violence rhetoric is a bit too much for me in 2026. Too many people believe that already.
I am really enjoying just sitting around on my day off, but I probably should get up and do some stuff.
Normalize doing nothing productive on your day off.
My problem with the Absolute books is that sometimes they change the character so much that they’re practically unrecognizable. Absolute Green Lantern and Absolute Martian Manhunter, for example, are really good stories but they’re connected to the idea of the character so loosely that I actually miss the Tangent universe, and that was usually completely different characters with just the same names. At least Tangent didn’t pretend these were the same characters, a level of honestly the Absolute line has not managed.
I like these comics in their own right, especially Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman, who are at least recognizable as What if this character lived in a universe created by Darkseid but I still feel weird about how far some of these characters are from their roots. And also, can we please stop using Darkseid so much? He’s rapidly becoming the DC Universe’s combination of Thanos and the Joker in terms of how omnipresent he is, and that’s sad when Thanos is a ripoff of Darkseid in the first place.
Anran: Probably the best balanced of the 5. Basically just a firebender hero. Very fun.
Domina: Aesthetically on point. And her curved shield is cool. But overall she feels weak, especially offensively.
Emre: The strongest of the new heroes. Extremely fun kit. Probably overtuned, but he’d be fun regardless.
Jetpack Cat: Also extremely fun! Is always flying, uses a resource to speed boost. Hard countered by Emre, funnily enough. Just generally hard to deal with if you lack a good hitscan.
Mizuki: Feels bad. His primary fire is hard to land. And if you can’t land his Chain stun then he’s kind of useless.
Just to be up front and honest with you all, the only one I care about even a little is Jetpack Cat, for whom I would wage war on Hell itself. I mean, I play a lot of Diablo, so I basically do that anyway.
