The Queue: Ketchup
At this point I’m more or less done with the prepatch event — or, at least, I’m doing about as much of it as I can stand. Now, I’m doing my own prepatch prep. Namely, I’m trying to wrap up all these little random quests in my log from expansions past that I just can’t seem to shake to clear quest slots for next expansion. Unfortunately, every one I do is apparently part of a long chain I don’t want to miss or mess up the next steps of, so I’m out here killing N’zoth once a week for… parts? I only have to kill Teron Gorefiend in Legion one more time for Khadgar to be satisfied before he sends me on to the next bit of the adventure. I need to do some stuff for Wrathion but I’m not sure which expansion he’s in, and the description just tells me to find him.
Anyway, we’re here now. So, that’s great. Love that for me.
This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us the questions and at least I’ll get some lumber out of it.
So yesterday was the first time I had a chance to play the Twilight Highlands content. I was a little worried because there’s been a lot of negativity, but I honestly think it’s not that bad.
It’s not super original I admit, but I actually think it’s an improvement on the Nightfall event in Hallowfall. I feel like they broke up the long invasion farm into small segments for each rare, which makes it feel much better.
As I noted though, I did start yesterday. My opinion would probably be worse if I’d hit all the bugs and such, but everything seems to be pretty smooth at this point.
Many of these limited time events provide a weird catch-22. They frequently function on daily quests, so if you think you’ll want a lot of the rewards, or at least the expensive ones, you need to hit the ground running and make sure you’re doing as many of them as possible every reset. However, they also frequently start off very overtuned, giving minimal rewards for maximum effort, and are later fixed, to the extent that you may just as well have waited and ignored those dailies. But you can’t count on that retune happening, and if it doesn’t you’re absolutely screwed on getting the mounts and such.
For me the issue remains that I really adore several of the decor pieces. I bought a single one of several of them, and now I’m just waiting for the event to be nearly over to blow the rest of my currency on as many as I can carry. So, of course, I’ve been going overboard on trying to collect a whole lot of this stuff, and it doesn’t help that I skipped out on the vast majority of this expansion, so I’m also woefully undergeared. But I don’t want to spend my precious currency on a new bow, because I have several hundred candles to buy.
Anyway, if I never come back to Twilight Highlands again it’ll be too soon.
Aside from a few cosmetic items, is there any reason to do the Lunar Festival this year?
There are a few things to consider in terms of the Lunar Festival and how worth it it is to participate every year.
The Elders still give decent XP for a visit, so if you have any alts, they tend to be a good, painless way to level. And speaking of alts, the heirloom upgrade doodads may be a reason for you to do it. Along with that, you may want to engage with it for Tendies and monthly journey reasons.
Lastly, even if you have all the items that are up for sale this year (or just plain aren’t interested), the Ancestral Coin currency is one that tends to stick around from year to year, so you can stockpile for the next set of cosmetics.
Q4tQ: if you could get a sequel to a game that felt as good to play as the original did, what game would you choose? (For the sake of this, let’s go with games that don’t have sequels, to avoid arguments over whether the sequel was good or not.)
Viva Pinata.
They actually did make a sequel, and both games were very well-received. But at this point it’s been so long, and it was such a novel concept done so well, that I truly think it deserves another round. I’m not sure you can even find playable copies of it anymore, so more, please.
Q4tQ When you preorder something that you’re going to put on display do you make the space for it in advance or do you wait until you have it before clearing out a spot?
If I want to get something new, I have to have the space before I order or purchase it, period. Books, kitchen equipment, blankets and clothes, gadgets — it doesn’t matter. This doesn’t necessarily mean that I have to get rid of something, either. It can also serve as a reason to get more or better shelving, or a better organization system for what I already have. But if I just buy something and say ‘eh, I’ll make space when it gets here’ I absolutely will not.
