Dalaran is dust, so where will the Northrend player capital of The Last Titan be?

We know that the heroes of Azeroth won’t be using the magical floating city of Dalaran as a base of operations for our return to Northrend (as it is currently scattered across the coast of the Isle of Dorn), so just where are we going to call home during The Last Titan? At this point it’s anyone’s guess, which means it’s time for some informed speculation!

From the initial announcement during BlizzCon 2023, we know that we will bear witness to the return of the Titans to Azeroth at Ulduar during the course of the expansion. Perhaps that meet & greet will happen at the very beginning of the story, and we will use the expansive Titan installation as the neutral quest hub for the expansion. It would be a fascinating turn to see a past raid become a current capital, and there could be some very interesting updates to the layout with the resident Keepers puttering around for the last decade.

There’s a very strong possibility that the Dragon Aspects will be playing a large role in the closing chapter of the Worldsoul Saga. The area surrounding Wyrmrest Temple is prime real estate that seems to yearn for blacksmithing tents, faction quartermasters, and catalyst consoles. While I think the underlying idea is solid, the verticality of the temple is a serious drawback. Who wants to have to hop on their flying mount to go from the bank to the auction house?

If we’re interested in a zombie-infested fixer-upper, Icecrown Citadel is a centrally-located gothic-style classic with saronite-infused curb appeal. Sure, the hideous masses of the Scourge are still crawling all over the battlements, but other than that it’s positively cozy. There’s square footage to spare for all of our worldsoul-rescuing preparation needs once we drive the undead back onto Icecrown glacier, but that’s a common problem in today’s Azerothian real estate market.

What about Wintergrasp Fortress? We spent the entirety of Wrath of the Lich King fighting over which faction gets to loot the vaults inside for the next two hours, so it would be oddly poetic to come back to that same battleground twenty years later in faction harmony. The entire zone is probably about the size of Dornogal, so the heroes of Azeroth descending on its snowy plains would quickly organize a temporary headquarters that would serve as a home base for all of our Titan-based questing across Northrend.

I think the Argent Tournament is a sleeper candidate for The Last Titan’s neutral gathering spot. I’m still in love with the idea of all of the most mighty heroes of the world coming together to pretend-fight about who gets to claim World First in Icecrown Citadel. Might this concept apply again on our second (third? sixteenth?) journey to the frozen north? The grounds would need to be greatly expanded and upgraded, but as long as I don’t have to slog through jousting dailies again, I wouldn’t mind calling the tourney my home for the expansion.

We have had separate capitals for Horde and Alliance players several times over the decades, leading to the distinct possibility that places like Warsong Hold and Valiance Keep might be expanded and modernized into appropriately-structured quest hubs. We know that the whole continent of Northrend will be getting a facelift as well as a jump forward in time, so if the peons and peasants have been working hard we may arrive on the icy shores of Borean Tundra to freshly-upgraded dueling home bases.

An entirely new home can’t be ruled out, either. There’s plenty of open space in the frozen north, so places like Crystalsong Forest and Grizzly Hills could have a capital spring up on short notice. Given that we’ll be calling Silvermoon City home in Midnight and the strong nostalgia-based call to return to familiar yet updated haunts, I think this is an unlikely possibility.

Finally, there are the longshots. Might we set up a home in Gundrak or the Nexus? Could Dalaran pull a re-re-return and take its familiar place hovering over Crystalsong Forest? Do other mobile headquarters like the Wandering Isle make sense to ship to Northrend?

Only time will tell where we’ll end up calling home once we set sail for the icy expanses at the top of Azeroth in The Last Titan. Where do you think the main gathering place will be?
