The Queue: Hello! I hope no one expects me to have a plan for the rest of this sentence…
I’m still not entirely sure what I’m playing in Midnight, so I hope no one expects me to have a plan for anything else. But a little uncertainty never frightened anyone. We shall march together into the strange future of tomorrow and see where it leads us! Onward! To Midnight!
And if that doesn’t make any sense to you, this is the Queue, our daily Q&A column where we do our best to answer your questions (though sometimes we have questions of our own). Let’s get to it.
Q4tQ: Do you have a leveling plan for Midnight? Zone order you want to hit up? Leveling one character to max first or cycling between multiple characters leveling them all? Systems you want to prioritize? Is your plan to have no plan?
For all that I enjoy a certain sense of order and understanding in my life, approaching a game I almost always just see where the wind carries me. As I am not fully fixed on a class, I may swap around and see how it goes… but on the other hand, it makes more sense to get one to max level before moving on to the others, doesn’t it? So maybe I’m more undecided than even I thought.
I will probably start with the Arator questline for a trip down memory lane and a visit to the Arcantina. I haven’t visited it in the beta in quite a while, and interested to see how it’s shaped up, or if there’s new content, or if new content will cycle through. So that’s high on the list, unless or until I get distracted by something else.
For all that we tend to min/max our gameplay, sometimes you just have to log on and see what happens next. We’re here to have fun (theoretically), so dive in and find what fun you can. We’ll all wind up in the same place in the end (sitting in front of raid, dungeon, or delve entrances), and how we get there isn’t the most important part.
Q4tQ: When we log in on expansion day and get the breadcrumb quest, where do we go to start the new content? Dragonflight had everyone waiting on the docks, but I wasn’t sure if there was an optimal place to wait for the countdown.
This is an easy one: you can start the quest from an apparition of Liadrin in Stormwind (outside the cathedral), in Orgrimmar (outside Grommash Hold), or in Dornogal. Wherever you are, there should be a convenient starting point that will teleport you straight into the opening of the expansion.
I think it’s a good strategy, without a single bottleneck point, and without a boat or the like to bug out and break on us. (Instead we can just have the standard server slow downs and loading screen freezes.)
For those not living in Europe, how do you feel about the change to a global launch a couple of expansions back, now that we’ve had a few like that.
Do you miss midnight launches?
I think the current system is more practical. The game rolls out at the same time for all of us, and we don’t have to futz with game boxes and waiting in lines: we buy a digital game, we install the game, and we play the game without having to worry about who has it in stock, or shipping delays, or anything else. It takes out some of the fuss in the middle of game launches.
But also… there was a certain feeling sitting up at a midnight launch event. A digital launch doesn’t capture the same energy, though I suppose we could all hop on Discord and chat while we play to bring some of that real-world excitement to things. But still, it’s hard to bring that same excitement to a digital launch.
I suppose I’m a little nostalgic for the midnight launches, but the convenience of a just roll it live and play all afternoon launch can’t be understated.
Q4tQ: Do you have any new Xpac rituals? I personally transfer all my gold from my alts into the war bank, say for 5k if there max lvl and 500 if they are still in the leveling posses and then park them all in the same inn in Org. And once the Xpac goes live I’ll log into the max leveled ones to start there rested accumulation as I level up my hunter.
I’m pretty ritual free, though I’m curious to hear what everyone else is up to in the final days of TWW. I’ll clean out my quest log trash items I’m pretty sure are irrelevant (though you never know), but that’s about it. Then it’s on to whatever seems interesting.
So just to be sure, Friday is the early access and Monday is the normal access of Midnight right?
Close: Thursday is early access and Monday is full launch for Midnight. Launch time for both is 3pm pacific (6pm eastern).
And that’s all for now, folks. I’ll see you in the comments.
