The Queue: A gnome playing chess in Karazhan
“Knight to C3,” commanded Peggy Sparklewrench. The gnome was determined to beat Medivh this time.
Medivh cheated. The black Knight burst into flames.
Having lost the game, Peggy said “screw this” and headed to the hot tub that had been set up on the Nightbane balcony, to take a dip with her new friends (a murloc, a cow, and Reno Jackson).
This is The Queue, our daily Q&A column where stories sometimes have exciting beginnings but predictable endings.
1) Q4tQ Which of the four zones in Midnight is your favorite?
2) Q4tQ who’s your favorite NPC of the expansion so far?
1) Overall, it’s Zul’Aman. The vibes are just immaculate. The storyline was great. It oozed with something that made me very nostalgic about what questing in WoW felt like many years ago. Plus, it had all the capys kaparas. Lots and lots of capys kaparas.
But when it comes to pure aesthetics, Eversong Woods wins. It’s just pretty in a way that’s hard to match.
And when it comes to pure story, I have to go with Voidstorm. I really enjoyed getting to know all of those Void Elf characters, with their personalities that are FAR more enjoyable than most Blood Elves in my book. It also had my favorite character in the expansion so far (more on that below).
The only one I didn’t mention here was Harandar, but it’s not that I disliked it; it simply didn’t resonate with me as much as the other three (or the Arator storyline, for that matter). However, it did have a particular lore development of sorts, involving some existing characters that I’m not gonna spoil here, that has me actually excited for its future potential.
2) Decimus!
That void man is snark done right, the kind of snark that makes you laugh with him instead of “I’m just gonna be an asshat to everyone lmao” snark. He was absolutely delightful in most of his dialogue throughout the zone.
Q4tQ: We know the Midnight is the Light vs Void expansion, so the chances are high that we see whatever is the most powerful / commanding force of the Light. What do you think are the chances we see the equivalent for the cosmic forces of Life before the conclusion of the World Soul Saga?
I don’t think Life will be a focus during the World Soul Saga, unless Blizzard has planned to throw us a curveball. We haven’t really had major Life presence so far — I don’t think the Haranir count, they’re more like guardians of the Worldsoul (possibly against ALL forces, though if they were inclined to ally themselves with any of them, it would almost certainly be Life). Storytelling in a medium like an MMO happens very, very slowly. Stuff takes months, if not years, to build up and get anywhere.
However, it’s true that we know next to nothing about The Last Titan. So, who knows? Maybe the writers do plan to add some Life presence to that expansion. I just wouldn’t bet too much on it simply because I feel like there would have been some seeds already. People don’t usually take too kindly to big stuff arriving out of nowhere, if most of what happened in Shadowlands is any indication.
Q4tRed: what’s one visual from a hearthstone trailer that you would love to see become a new WoW Housing Decor painting and why
Three trailers immediately came to mind for their super cool visuals, so this one was easy!
Gnome chess from One Night in Karazhan.
Marisa du’Paige clashing with some pirate fool from the Deadmines mini-set trailer.
This submarine shot from Voyage to the Sunken City.
Any of those paintings might compete with the Shu’halo Perspective for a spot on one of my walls.

Which faction leaders would perform best in a rap battle?
Most faction leaders seem like serious (and boring) individuals. But something tells me that Velen would have a wicked sense of humor that would lend itself well to a rap battle. Thousands of years pondering the cosmos, after all.
His Horde counterpart might be… Lor’themar, surprisingly! I think Lor’themar is a down-to-earth guy who lives in a big city and partakes in the small pleasures of life when he can. Plus, Thalyssra must have seen something in him!
We would NOT want to watch a rap battle between Anduin and Baine. That would be an extremely boring event and they’d both be booed offstage.
What Midnight achievements will you focus on the most?
Most likely any Delve-related ones. Since Delves were introduced in The War Within, they’ve become my primary gameplay mode. On the last xpac, I was super happy to get the Immortal Spelunker title pretty early on — and sure, that one was actually pretty easy, and became even easier as time went by, but the mere fact that I got it early made me feel like I was “on top of things” in a way that felt accomplishing.
But to be honest, anything solo-play related is a “soft goal” of sorts. I might also chase achievements related to Prey, or to Labyrinths, for instance. I plan to focus on pushing myself as hard as I can for a casual player (without “no lifing” the game, that is), so I’ll look for achievements that gel with that kind of gameplay.
Is there a genre of music you really generally dislike? And within that genre, is there a handful of exceptions (or even a single one)
this question brought to you by the fact that I really dislike country music, but enjoy jamming out to sleeping on the blacktop.
My answer is very similar to yours. I’m generally not a big fan of country music, but I can jam to a classic like “country rooooaaaads take me hoooooome…” or Big Iron.
Hey Red, on your list of characters named Red, do Red’s who are named for the color Red, qualify to to join the list of Red’s?
They’re all good Reds, Waffle. And yes, of course! Otherwise one of the most iconic of them all, Red from Pokémon, wouldn’t qualify!

This has been The Queue. Tip of the day: remember to not let your emotions cloud your rational decisions, friends. Thanks for coming to my RED Talk.
