The Queue: I hope we’re all having fun today (and maybe tomorrow, too)

It’s a beautiful day in Silvermoon City… as long as you don’t turn around and look up at the sky, anyway. But there’s no time to sit around enjoying the scenery, because we have quests to finish, reputation to grind, prey to track, and delves to clear.

And we can’t forget the Queue, of course. This is the Queue, our daily Q&A column where we do our best to answer your questions and we all get to have a good time in the comments section because of it. Let’s get to it.

SHUANNA_2026 ASKED:

QftQ: Do I need the main game client to use the play for free (up to level 20-thing)? I went on hiatus at the very end of Legion but Blizzard still remember me. Might as well check things out for a few weeks until I can grab Midnight.

Or do I need to create a new account for the F2P?

I suspect you’ve figured this out already, but the game trial runs on the same client as the main game, with the same characters as the main game. Download the Battle.net launcher, then use it to download and install the World of Warcraft: Midnight client (the latest modern game version).

You’ll be able to use your existing account to play any characters up to level 20 or any characters you already have that are under level 20 without a subscription.

The game has gone through a lot of change since Legion, but there’s always something familiar about coming back to Warcraft. Have fun!

CAPTAIN CAKEWALK, VIBE DRUID SAID:

I’m taking levelling in as relaxed a fashion as I can, but man, it takes a while to ding after level 80! I’m level 82 on my Harinir Druid and I think 83 on my Troll Druid, but it definitely feels slower. Not a bad thing to me as I do enjoy the more relaxed experience (heh) but I can imagine it might get grating on alts.

The initial rush to max level is a sort of terrible one. There’s a whole mountain of content to enjoy, but it’s tough to take it easy when you want to jump into the excitement of end game activities (and for my part, I have a guild that raids and I want to join them when they do). But there’s a ton to do along the way, and it feels like Midnight zones are absolutely loaded with side quests to explore — I think I often like the side quests more than the main story quests, but on the leveling grind you just want to zoom through the main campaign (and come back for the rest later).

That’s a lot of words to say that taking it easy is the right idea, in my mind. If it takes a lot of time to get those levels, you’re still having fun along the way.

And it gets faster on alts. Getting one character to 90 gives your other characters a +5% XP boost with the Warband Mentors achievements, which stacks up to +25% for the alt lovers out there. And the amount of leveling power you get from rested XP is massive — so that first rush to max level without any rested experience is a little harder, a little slower. But every other character has it a little easier afterwards.

RUKA SAID:

Maybe I just got lucky, but the fights in LFR were pretty fun. I especially like the third fight in WotV.

Timing is everything on LFR. Tuesday is typically a great day, as players going in immediately after reset tend to be the ones who are really on the ball: well-prepared mains going down their weekly to-do lists. As the week progresses, it’s more likely to be the less prepared, until you get to Monday when it’s everyone doing a last-minute attempt at weekly gear.

But even then, any group finder activity is the luck of the draw. Sometimes you get a good group in LFR and sometimes you’ll struggle. But you usually have better odds closer to weekly reset.

KALCHEUS SAID:

Alright, ran Den to get the rep for Hara’ti.

I think I’ve done every weekly except Delves!

Guess I’ll start them tomorrow

How do you find the time for these things, and would you like to do them for me, too?

That’s all for today everybody. I have some delves to run since no one will run them for me. Have a good Thursday everybody, and I’ll see you in the comments section.
