Blizzard Watch Weekly: Roofus arrives, Midnight Season 1 begins, and more of the week’s most interesting Warcraft news
It’s Monday, which means it’s time to catch up on the week that was and the week to come. Here’s what’s been happening in Blizzard games over the last week, and what’s coming up this week. Here’s the latest news.
What happened last week?
- Midnight Season 1 started on Tuesday (NA) or Wednesday (EA), launching the Voidspire and Dreamrift raids… but there’s more to come with Mythic difficulties launching this week.
- Still working your way through Midnight content? We have advice on how to speed through your Midnight Renown grinds, as well as a list of where to find every Midnight Renown Quartermaster.
- Last week we got our first look at WoW patch 12.0.5, but one feature really caught our eye: Abyss Anglers, a brand new fishing event.
- New charity pet Roofus has made his debut in World of Warcraft, benefiting Habitat for Humanity. This precious pup has his very own hard hat and is ready to help around the house: Roofus can follow you around the game, but can also wander around your home when you place a dog bed or dog house for him.
- If you haven’t heard of the Pringles purple mammoth controversy, more power to you. If you read that and now have to know more, we are here to explain it to you.
- Hearthstone’s Cataclysm expansion launched, bringing new Colossal minions, Shattered cards that split in two, and the Herald keyword which brings the style of classic C’Thun decks back to the game. It’s up to you whether you like that or not.
- It’s Tavern Brawl time, and this week’s Brawl is a perennial favorite of mine, the Cataclysm Recipe Tavern Brawl, in which Blizzard gives you access to powerful Cataclysm decks to play with to kick the metaphorical tires of the expansion.
- Blizzard Watch is looking for a few good writers, so why don’t you throw your hat in the ring? You may be just the person we’re looking for.
What’s happening this week (and beyond)
- March 24: Midnight Season 1 adds Mythic+ dungeons, Mythic difficulty Dreamrift raid, Mythic, and Story Mode, and Raid Finder (wing 2) Voidspire raid. (No Story Mode has been announced for Dreamrift.) With Mythic raids launching, it’s the real kickoff of the Race to World First, as guilds vie to get the first Mythic kills in the latest raids.
- Through March 26: Collect the latest WoW Twitch Drop: two different color murloc plushies as decor for your house by watching four hours of World of Warcraft.
- March 26 – April 23: A new Twitch Drop immediately replaces the last, offering another color variant of the much-loved murloc plushie. Again, you’ll have to watch four hours of Warcraft streamers to get this new purple murloc variant.
- March 27: Diablo 3 Season 38 launches, bringing back Ethereal weaponry, a nostalgic callback to Diablo 2.
- Through March 27: WoW Trial of Style is live, and with the new transmog system in Midnight, this event will work a little differently… and it’s also pretty buggy.
- March 31: Mists of Pandaria Classic launches Phase 4: Escalation, as the factions of the Horde rebel against Garrosh in the lead-in to Siege of Orgrimmar, which will launch in Phase 5 (no date for that yet).
- March 31: Midnight Season 1 adds the March on Quel’Danas raid on Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties, and opens Voidspire Raid Finder wing 3.
- April 7: Midnight Season 1 opens Story Mode and Raid Finder for the March on Quel’Danas raid.
- April 28: Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred launches
- Until they’re gone: BlizzCon 2026 tickets are on sale
Other things we’re playing, watching, and more
- This week’s freebie from the Epic Games Store is Electrician Simulator, which is exactly what it sounds like. If you need another simulator-style game, it’s free through Thursday.
