The Queue: The pollening

It never fails. We get to the part of spring when it’s lovely and I want nothing more than to be outside and throw open all the windows, and then, boom, the pollen count is 6,000 and everything is coated in yellow-green dust. Gross.

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us questions and we’ll give a zyrtec-fueled answer. Gesundheit.

Q4tQ Are you paying attention to the Race to World First this week, or are you waiting for Mythic March on Quel’Danas next week?

I’m not much of a Race to World First watcher now that Chef Heidi has moved on to bigger and better things. I understand the appeal, but it just isn’t for me.

I’m much more excited to see what I got in my own vault this week!

Q4TQ: Time is running out on the Steam spring sale. I haven’t decide on my finial choices yet. But my list just keeps growing. Have you bought everything you’re going to buy or are you still deciding?

Honestly I mostly just purchased what I did because I wanted to get the new Spirit City DLC day one, and there were a few that were cheap enough that I just threw them in. The four titles I purchased were OutwardMartha Is DeadDraugenThronefall, and The Pale Beyond.

The Long Dark‘s final episode is releasing next week so I know I’m going to be immersed in that, so buying a ton of games right now is just a little silly for me.

Q4tQ: Soup? What’s your favourite kind of soup and why is it a Thai coconut soup?

It changes based on the time of year. In midsummer I freaking love pho with a ton of cilantro, which then transitions into creamy tomato basil in mid-fall as I suddenly have a billion tomatoes from the garden to deal with. Winter is for chili and cream soups, especially broccoli cheddar, though this year I’ve noticed a trend toward non-soup slop, like tuscan broad beans or lentil dahl. This time of year I’m moving toward a lighter, brothier soup, like minestrone, french onion (though I forgo the crouton because wet bread grosses me out), or even a corn chowder.

My main controversial soup opinion is that rice in soup is gross.

Q4tQ For an oil diffuser or similar product, do you stick to one bottle of oil and use it all up until switching to the next bottle, or do you rotate among the bottles you have?

I rotate scents out seasonally. Right now I have a crisp lemon/citrus for spring. Summer is watermelon scent season, though sometimes I’ll swap to a berry or lemonade. Fall is apples and pumpkin and cinnamon, and winter is vanilla and cocoa and coconut.

I usually use a wax warmer instead of an oil mist diffuser because it’s humid enough in my house. This also means it’s kind of a pain to swap out a scent, though usually I can just open the curtains and let it warm up like that to get a light hit of the scent.
