The Queue: Very superstitious

On Monday nights, after our raid ends, I like to park myself right at the Great Vault so that when I get home from work Tuesday afternoon I’m ready to log in and hopefully secure a piece of shiny new loot. This week, for the first vault of the season, I decided to wander over to the Horde-only side of Silvermoon City and see if we had a bank over there with our own Great Vault. We do, as it turns out, and I thought — you know, it’s silly, but maybe as a Horde character, I’ll have slightly better luck if I use the Horde-only Vault.

I did get some Hero-tier gloves that I can catalyze next week, and I managed to continue to evade the bug where people are getting nothing but the same item slot over and over (example: eight sets of bracers), so I guess it worked? I’ll probably continue to do this on Mondays. If baseball players can be superstitious, so can I.

Anyway, this is The Queue, our daily Q&A column where you ask questions, and we probably have answers, but we have to do a little ritual first. Just in case.

Q4tQ The moths in Harandar used to appear on my minimap as blue dots but now they’re no longer showing that way. Did something change or is it an issue on my end?

Now, I didn’t check myself because there’s some kind of authentication issue right now preventing logins, but after asking the most reliable source I know of — my guild — they said that moths were not showing up last night, but are showing up today. So it probably wasn’t you, but it might be fixed now!

Q4tQ: What would make a convention “worth it” for you to attend? There has been a conversation the past several years around PAX East about what companies are in attendance versus the ticket prices, and it has grown pretty loud this year as they biggest two exhibitors are Nintendo and Magic. While the Nintendo booth is big this year, previous years saw absolutely giant booths from Sony, Blizzard, Square, etc. What would be the deciding factor for you to attend a convention or not?

Honestly, given the price of travel, lodging and convention tickets these days, I don’t know what it would take to get me to go to a con. I think I would either need to be meeting up with a lot of people I know, or I’d have to be in pursuit of some kind of product that can only be purchased exclusvely at that con (and even then, I’d need it to be a case where nobody I know is going).

I guess I should state this really only applies to larger conventions. Small conventions that don’t have the brand name of a PAX or a GenCon attached to them are often much more affordable, in much more down-to-Earth locations, and are often pretty fun to attend even if it’s just me going by myself to check out the show floor, browse retro games, or watch a panel or two.

SPENCER MORGAN

Q4tQ: are lifted trucks a thing everywhere or is that an American phenomena?

I have no evidence to prove it, but if you told me this was exclusively an American phenomenon, I’d believe you.

KALCHEUS (AGAIN!)

Q4tQ How do you feel about a former dungeon becoming a delve?

I’d rather a dungeon become a Delve than what usually happens, which is “Blizzard ignores their old content entirely until it’s time to either have a Remix, or blow it away and revamp it.” Maybe we can get Blackrock Depths as a Labyrinth once those launch. That place is already a labyrinth anyway.

JALAMENOS

Why is Arator called “the Redeemer”?

We have a whole article about the guy, and the gist of it is: no one knows. The Blood Ties novel reveals that he was given the epithet upon being knighted as a Paladin of the Silver Hand, but without ever knowing what it was that he’s supposed to be redeeming. Maybe he’ll redeem his dad, or the Paladin orders as a whole that seem to be going a little bit Light-crazy these days.

RED, BLIZZARD WATCH’S MOST POPULAR PHIL

Q4TQ: when do you consider it “safe” to catalyze your gear?

As soon as I can. No, really. Set bonuses are such an absurd gain that I will catalyze Veteran-track gear if I need to to get the set bonuses. This is especially true with the changes in Midnight where, once you get your four piece bonus, you start seeing extra Catalyst charges dropping from content; there’s no real reason to wait, in my opinion.
