The Queue: Monday already?
I definitely did not authorize it to be Monday already. The dilemma of weekends: the more I do on the weekend, the more I feel like I need a second weekend after my weekend because I used the first one up doing stuff, but the less I do on the weekend, the more I feel like I need a second weekened because I wasted the first one.
Anyway, this is The Queue, our daily Q&A column. Grab your favorite morning beverage (I have an iced coffee, unlike the fine captain up here) and let’s get to answering some questions.
QftQ: Are you finding some delves more challenging to deal with than others?
Legitimate answer, not really, but I’m also playing a tank. Being a tank is the secret sauce to clearing all kinda of Delve content before you should be able to. The only reason I didn’t get into the Nullaeus “??” hall of fame is because I wasn’t awake during the four hours it was open in North America. Even on tier 11 delves, they just don’t hurt tanks like they do everyone else.
I actually do enjoy some of the variety this time around, but I find that the ones I prefer are the ones everyone else hates. I do enjoy that they tried to switch up the formula this time — instead of eight variants on “tight hallways with densely-packed mobs” we have things like the wide-open Collegiate Calamity and Shadowguard Point, troll trap central Twilight Crypts, and the all-in-one-room Grudge Pit; even if they don’t work, they’re clearly trying new things, and even if it’s not always a win you have to applaud that kind of focus on solo-player gameplay.
Q4tQ: are there any updated gryphon mounts in game besides the algarian stormrider from the store. All the other updated gryphons on WoWhead are listed as trading post items.
I can’t remember the last time I saw a gryphon other than the High Shaman’s Aerie Gryphon from the Trading Post — which is admittedly a very pretty mount, I used it for quite a while. I’m a little surprised we didn’t at least have more stormrooks in The War Within than the one secret one; they featured pretty prominently in the Isle of Dorn both pre and post level cap and then… nothing. On the other hand, more stormrooks might’ve meant more Thrall. Maybe let’s be thankful there.
I suspect you might have to wait until the world-ending calamity where the Alliance is hosting the house party instead.
Is this Arcantina a weekly quest?
Yep! The Arcantina quests show up each week, and they’ll stay there and wait for you until you come by to finish them. Which in retrospect I guess that means more and more guests are going to show up at the magical pocket dimension wizard bar and …. never leave to help with the fight against the Void. Folks? A little help?
As a bonus weekly Arcantina activity, occasionally your choice of four weekly quests from Lady Liadrin will include a quest to toast three patrons. Use your key to zone in, buy yourself a Toasting Brew from Bartender Bob, and toast yourself three times. Boom, quest complete. It won’t get you much credit towards Share a Drink, but it’s the absolute easiest way to get a Spark of Radiance.
Q4tQ: Which setting is making stuff show through walls? It’s driving me nuts.
My guess is that’s Highlight Mode acting up. There’s a setting to outline quest mobs and/or interactable objects, either when you mouse over them or all the time.
Fun fact: you also need to have it turned on in order for the new helper feature in Mythic +2 keys, Lindormi’s Guidance, to work at all — otherwise you just have to squint around looking for mobs with sparkly feet. Ask me how I know!
Q4tQ How do you feel about some of the delves having the same final boss regardless of which “story” it is? It’s kinda immersion-breaking for me tbh.
I can’t say that I’ve ever thought about it, honestly; my immersion level in a Delve is already at a zero thanks to the world’s chattiest Rogue companion. I guess I don’t mind it where it makes sense, but the one that was always kind of weird for me back in The War Within was Tak-Rethan Abyss: no matter what enemy you were fighting there, the boss was always a weird fungus monster, at least until we got the Goblin Delve stories added in the Undermine patch. So hey, maybe 12.1 or 12.2 will shake things up!
