The Queue: Warlock
I am greatly enjoying my Warlock in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred. Not only is the class really fun to play, she’s very photogenic. I guess one thing you learn early on in Warlock School is that it’s not enough to constantly battle corruption while pursuing infinite demonic power; you have to look really cool while doing it.
This is The Queue, our daily Q&A column where we ride a demonic doggo into battle while dragging our enemies in fire chains behind us, and then we incinerate them. Feels good, man.
Q4tQ: how often do you only enjoy one spec in a class, or one method of play in a game? Asking because I’ve realized that across multiple Diablo IV classes, there’s only one way of play that I like. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it makes me wonder if I’ll get bored of those classes eventually.
Yeah, that happens sometimes. Right now, class design in WoW is in a place where I can find some enjoyment out of nearly every spec, but it wasn’t always that way. I still have very low /played time with a few classes like Priest, Warrior, and Druid precisely because I couldn’t find much that I enjoyed about them. Then, I eventually found one spec I liked on each, so each got some limited play time. There have been expansions where the only Rogue spec I liked was Assassination, or the only Warrior spec I liked was Fury, etc. But things are generally better now.
With Diablo, that problem is a little less accentuated for me because there are so many skills, and thus, so much build variety. It’s hard to even know every possible playstyle a class has! I often find something I like pretty quickly, to be honest.
But I guess I tend to often look at gameplay variations, on any game, with a bit of a critical hat on, like an armchair game designer. I try to understand what a certain playstyle is all about, and this exercise of analyzing it and trying to see how it clicks often makes the experience a little more fun for me than it would be if I were “purely” playing it, I guess. This is also why, on any game, I tend to be the type of player that tries to play everything. Every class, every character, etc. But I realize that most people aren’t like that, and tend to find their favorites and settle on them.
Q4TQ: Have you tried any new decks using the class sets? I’ve tried some Dude Paladin and some Leyline Burn Mage hybrid that felt good.
Dude Paladin was the only one for me so far, and it’s pretty fun. But none of those new decks seem super strong to me yet. Leyline for Mage, in particular, has some truly atrocious numbers at the moment, and probably needs some buffs before it’s really playable.
And I do expect us to get some buffs in time, assuming things don’t change. Part of the Hearthstone team’s reasoning for changing from minisets to class sets was exactly because they expected that bigger number of new cards to a single class to shift the meta a little more than just a small amount of new cards per classes did. On paper, that’s a very good idea. In practice, the meta hasn’t shifted too much — yet. So I fully expect them to “force” some changes in the following days/weeks with some buffs to the cards from the class sets — especially for Mage.
Q4tQ What do you think of the Blueshift Big Band plays Persona?
Those guys are legit, they do some very nice covers (I already knew their DK Island Swing).
This particular collection of songs is a bit hit or miss for me, but some of the songs are pretty cool — in particular the more upbeat Persona 3 ones. I really dig the beginning of Snow Queen too.
Q4tQ: which would you prefer: we see Nathanos again for closure, or he’s just never seen again and Sylvanas just has to live with not knowing?
Follow Up Q4tQ: would Soul-Back Sylvanas dump him anyways?
Everything I know about Nathanos Blightcaller was taught to me against my will.
Q4tQ: speaking of, am I crazy or did fem worgen shoulder armors get way way larger suddenly?
Big shoulder is at it again! Wake up sheeple!!!
But no, I don’t think you’re crazy. Even though I don’t know if shoulder size was actually increased at some point or not, I did notice that female Worgen do have comically large shoulders, yes — regardless of whether they were deliberately increased, or were always like that — so you’re not alone in having that impression.
Could we be Mandela Effecting fem-Worgen shoulders? Does anyone have some old fem Worgen screenshots we could take a look at? I don’t think anyone does! The world may never know!

This has been The Queue. Have a good weekend, everyone, and go play some Diablo! And if your name is Jalamenos, go drink some water right now!
