A first look at World of Warcraft: Forever’s Legacy system from BlizzCon
Legacy is a new system introduced in the upcoming World of Warcraft: Forever title which is kind of a mash up of Achievements, a skill tree, and a seasonal journey. I was able to get some hands on with the WoW: Forever demo at the con and got to see the barebones structure of Legacy in action.
Usual disclaimers: this is a beta build and a lot will change.
The Legacy system has three different panels: Legacy Challenges, Legacy Tree, and Progress Track. The basic gameplay loop is completing the Legacy Challenges — which are similar to achievements — to gain Legacy Points, spend the LP points on the Legacy Trees, and passively get additional rewards for spending those LP points via the Progress Track.

Legacy Challenges
Legacy Challenges look much like achievements and cover similar territory: class, raid, profession, raid, dungeon, etc. Not all of these challenges grant Legacy Points, mostly the meta type ones. Right now the system is sparsely populated and will likely fill out as beta launches and continues.

Legacy Trees
So far there are three Legacy Trees: Professions, Adventure, and Resourcefulness and not all of them are filled out yet. As for the kinds of rewards, they range from increased chance to receive a skill increase to more rested experience to not having to keep spell components in your inventory bag.
It looks like you can spend points in any tree freely though, like normal talent trees, some of the rewards are locked behind other choices within the trees.

Progress Track
This part appears to give you rewards based on how many Legacy Points you spend in the Legacy Tree screens. As you do, you can claim the items listed from NPCs in the game. At this time there were only the four rewards listed in the screenshot above.
I do love a progress track in games and like the idea of achievement points being useful for something other than bragging rights. I’m looking forward to seeing this system develop as WoW: Forever heads towards its release date of November 4.
