Hands-on with Last Call at the Arcantina, a WoW tabletop experience exclusive to BlizzCon

One of the least advertised things on the BlizzCon 2026 map was a small area in the World of Warcraft section labeled “Last Call at the Arcantina“. It turned out to be a hyper-short tabletop RPG experience for four players that was super fun, easy to jump into, and (hopefully) a sign of more similar experiences to come.

After seeing several WoW devs post that this was an experience not to be missed, I made sure to carve out time on Sunday morning to be one of the first in line when the experience opened. I was paired up with a group of three behind me, and our foursome got to know each other while we waited for a table to open up.

There were six pre-made characters to choose from: an Orc Warrior, a Forsaken Warlock, a Goblin Mage, a Troll Shaman, a Tauren Druid, and a Blood Elf Paladin. Each character could perform two class-aligned actions each turn (Warriors could Whirlwind and Charge), and there were also class-specific once-per-game bonus actions (like Battle Shout and Taunt).

Hit points and a Luck stat were tracked with six-sided die, and with a quick intro to the mechanics we were ready to jump right in. One of the World of Warcraft developers served as our game master, and after a brief cry for help from Khadgar our party was ported to the front door of the Arcantina.

A Naga witch stood before us channeling a spell into a strange crystal and accompanied by several Murloc flunkies. From there it was the classic prompt: “what do you do?” I volunteered to take the first turn and inspected the weapon rack just inside the door. One random roll later, I found myself wielding a temporary echo of Gorehowl and smashing two of the Murlocs into the ground (while causing a few thousand gold in damages to the bar. Sorry, Khadgar!)

A few rounds of high-flying combat in which more legendary weapons were summoned and many more Murlocs joined the fray, we managed to vanquish our enemies. The entire experience from sitting down at the table to receiving a commemorative plushie prize on the way out took no more than 30 minutes.

I was able to briefly speak with one of the people behind this side quest who said that it was totally separate from the upcoming World of Warcraft / Dungeons & Dragons crossover. This was simply a labor of love that was spun up in the Blizzard offices a few months ago as a fun project. After initial development and testing, it got the green light to become a full-fledged booth at BlizzCon.

I wasn’t alone in saying that it was really fun but also quite approachable. With the entire ruleset fitting on the pamphlet hand-out, there wasn’t anything complicated to keep in mind or memorize. I can easily see Last Call at the Arcantina being spun off into a standalone tabletop RPG board game with a handful of maps and encounters. Best of all, a few guidelines on how to create your own adventures using the system could give it the replay-ability to give lasting appeal in a tabletop game collection.
