What’s your plan for the imminent World of Warcraft: Forever launch day?
It’s almost here: World of Warcraft: Forever officially goes live this Wednesday November 4 at 3pm pacific (6pm eastern). If you haven’t locked it in yet, it’s time to figure out: what’s your game plan?
Interest in the beta, from every angle, was unprecedented. However many millions of characters were created and hours were spent on Azeroth by players pales in comparison to the anecdotal evidence: developers in awe of the online crowds, players who haven’t logged on since Wrath of the Lich King coming back for more, and a general vibe that this iteration of World of Warcraft is going to be one of the most popular chapters in its long history.
With the beta being as popular as it was, launch night is bound to be as tranquil and smooth as the rolling plains between Southshore and Tarren Mill. Are you going to brave the login queues, the disconnects, and the hordes of potentially mischief-minded players? Is your guild prepped to count down the seconds until launch together?
If you aren’t free on Wednesday night or standing knee-deep in Gnome noobs isn’t your cup of tea, how long will you wait? Have you already laid the groundwork for a Thursday/Friday sick day by dramatically coughing through your early week meetings? Have you stocked up on your favorite snacks in anticipation of barricading yourself at home over the weekend?
Of course, jumping right in at launch isn’t for everyone. There are a multitude of reasons that you might be planning on starting your Forever journey later in the month or even next year. Those pesky real-life commitments often dictate how much time (if any) we can commit to gaming, and if you’ve got change on the horizon that will lead to an uptick in free time then you might have a calendar date circled in sky blue that isn’t November 4. Other folks might be certain that they’ll enjoy their first foray into this side-chapter of World of Warcraft’s story much more if most other players have moved on past the starting zones. In that case, waiting several months (or more) could yield a huge payoff.
Personally, I’m planning on being there right at the minute Forever launches. I have no expectations of enjoying (or even technically playing) the game for the first hour or even evening, but the “I was there” factor is far too enticing to pass up. If I do end up lucky enough to make it to Coldridge Valley with my pre-rolled Dwarf Shaman, Angus McCracken, then I’ll consider it a bonus. Rather than get a head start on leveling, I’ll be wandering around the zone and taking it all in.
So what’s your game plan? Do you have time carved out, or will you wait until the siren’s song of vintage Azeroth becomes too overwhelming to ignore?
