Will WoW ever have another new class?
Post Legion, I’m really wondering about how much room the game have for future expansion, specifically when it comes to classes. Legion in particular has set a unique design limitation for any new class. It’s unlikely we’ll ever see a non-Hero class again. In Mists of Pandaria we saw the Monk come in as a normal class, starting at level 1 like every other class save Death Knights. But Legion brought us Artifacts, and every class currently in game has one.
This makes me wonder — how you would incorporate a new class and have it level from 100 to 110 without designing new Artifacts for it? And can we reasonably expect Blizzard to go back and design a class order hall and unique 100 to 110 content, including order hall campaigns and Artifact quests and hidden appearances for a new class? All this while also designing the 110 and beyond content for every other class in the game?
So if WoW ever gets a new class, it would almost have to be a hero class that started at or near the top of the Legion leveling curve, or even beyond that. Assuming the next expansion doesn’t get a new class, then the next time we get a new class could well be at level 120. We got one in Wrath, another in Mists and the DH in Legion, which is about every other expansion. But it’s almost as likely that we’ll never see a new one, based on the amount of work it would take to integrate it.
What do you think? New classes at level 1, are they possible in a post-Artifact world?
