Breakfast Topic: Does lore matter to you?
I was having a discussion about Garona Halforcen the other day because of her status as the first legendary follower, and the person I was discussing it with told me flat out he didn’t care about the story of World of Warcraft at all. And that has always surprised me, because I’m not one of those people who can play a game if I don’t care about the story. That’s why I took so long to get into Diablo, I think – I found the story a lot less interesting until Diablo III brought the nephalem to the forefront and introduced the concept of Anu and Tathemet, the gnostic undertones that lay like strata beneath the basic story of Heaven and Hell at war. It made me care enough to actually play the game.
So here’s a question – do you need to care about the story at all? Or are you content as long as you’re enjoying the playing, and don’t really care about the in-setting details?
