Breakfast Topic: What’s your most complicated achievement?
In Wrath of the Lich King, achievements seemed to permeate the entire World of Warcraft. They forced players to look at certain quests or even areas, and try to do them a bit differently. At one point, they even made boss achievements more difficult — for example, many Ulduar raiders will fondly remember Mimiron’s Firefighter achievement.
In many of these cases, the entire boss became completely different, as they predated Heroic raiding. Instead of relying upon raiders to kill bosses in a different difficulty setting, rankings instead could rely upon them to earn a specific achievement by pushing a button that gave the boss a new ability, or forced players to ignore a certain add, or a myriad of other possibilities. However, modern raiding now has different difficulties that instead introduce a new mechanic where they exist, yet achievements for killing a boss a certain way have not disappeared.
For example, Blackhand has an achievement for a raid group to “soak” 20 ashes from his platform. These are the small, glittery things in Phase 3 … which require members of the group to jump off of the platform completely. Thus, other than sacrificing players to the Achievement Point spirits, a thoughtful use of class and encounter mechanics are required to complete the achievement and kill the boss.
What achievements do you feel have been more complicated, or perhaps stood out as the most complicated? Do these, perhaps, add another layer of flavor to the game, or do you try to avoid them at all costs?
