Breakfast Topic: What do you think about flying in Draenor?

Yesterday it was announced that yes, we would be able to take to the skies and fly in Draenor after all — but not without some work on our end. Flying in Draenor will be something we can unlock through obtaining a series of achievements and reputations, rather than paying a giant chunk of change to a vendor. The achievements range from exploration and quest completion to simply completing various sections of Draenor’s content, something that a lot of people already have a pretty good leg up on as it stands. I actually like this arrangement — I don’t have all the achievements needed, but suddenly I’ve got a very good reason to go back and finish them out.

More importantly, the reputation requirements have suddenly renewed my interest in playing with patch 6.2’s reputation grinds. I’m going to be honest here — Warlords of Draenor is the first expansion since…well, ever, that I haven’t taken an active interest in filling all those little reputation bars. The rewards just weren’t worth the hours of mindlessly grinding mobs. I did the mindless mob grind back in vanilla — anyone remember the old Timbermaw grind? I didn’t want to do it again. I thought we were beyond it. I’m okay with doing it now, because there’s something I really, really want on the line here.

And in a way, this hearkens back to the days of Burning Crusade and the Netherwing. Completing the Netherwing quest chain and reputation grind got you a free flying mount — a reward for all the effort you’d put in. I like the idea that Draenor is giving us another challenge along the same lines. True, as a lore fiend I wish it were wrapped up in some kind of content and lore heavy series of quests that made it feel a little more personal and a little less mechanical, but hey, I’ll take what I can get.
