The Queue: Giant metal angry painbot
Welcome back to The Queue, the Q&A column for all things Blizzard related. If you have a question for the Queue, leave a comment and you may see it answered!
I never actually realized that Fel Reavers have faces. They have teeth. Where did they get the teeth from? What were they before they were giant mental angry painbots? Were they living creatures at some point? I mean, Fel Reavers are creepy enough with that whole being able to just sneak up on you and everything, but they have teeth, man. Teeth.
Does anyone else have interest in paying for access to say npc skin tones or more playable races? I’d pay money to finally have my dark iron dwarf or human DK with cultist skin if it was a one time mini-pack you buy that upgrades account to have access to the alternate skins. People want a playable race not playable? This is a solution.
Imagine have a mini-pack for playable races themed ‘Classics of the Horde and Alliance’ and it contains forest trolls along with Ogres for the Horde while Alliance get High elves and Furbolgs. If any of races become playable due to expansion down the road can just give players a game time token and a special achieve. Are races that people will never stop asking for like High elves that will never be feature of a expansion.
I’m pretty sure if they put additional skin tones or playable races behind a pay wall like that, the player base would riot. Do I think it would be something fun to add to the game? Absolutely. Do I think it should be something you pay additional money for? Absolutely not. Playable races have always been an expansion feature, along with new starting zones and new story. If they just slapped playable races up as something you pay for, you’d miss out on that experience entirely. As for new skin tones, I would hope that’s something they add to the woefully underutilized Barber Shop feature that was added and then by and large forgotten about in terms of new updates.
What do you hope the setting of the next expansion will be? Personally, I want it to be titan and old god themed.
I don’t think it’s time for a Titan vs. Old God expansion yet. I wouldn’t mind seeing more Old God stuff — I mean, I’m a big fan of that whole Old God mythos and the whole Titan story — but I think right now the focus is pretty clearly on the Burning Legion, and I think it’s going to stay there for at least a little while. I would love to see something involving Azshara though, particularly because there are still leftover pieces from Cataclysm waiting to be addressed. Neptulon, anyone?
Ok, so when people talk about the “South Seas”, are these southern seas even farther south than Pandaria or North of Pandaria? If north then wouldn’t they be only sorta-south seas? If south of P then wouldn’t they be sorta-frozen south seas because seriously, farther south would eventually mean colder at some point? Or maybe it’s the same latitude as Pandaria just on the other side of Azeroth?
These questions perplex me and keep me awake at night. Please help!
The South Seas refers to the islands to the south of the two major continents — Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. Technically, Pandaria is semi-included in that whole South Seas designation, but it’s a large continent rather than just an island. Islands generally included in the South Seas are Zandalar, Kezan, Tel Abim, and Plunder Isle. Kul Tiras could also technically be considered South Seas now, if we knew where the heck it wandered off to after Cataclysm — nobody’s heard anything from Kul Tiras in years.
Warlock pets getting new textures/models was nice in 6.2. What would you like to be next on the list of visual upgrades?
Goblins and worgen could use visual upgrades, particularly female worgen. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention moonkin form, which could also use some visual polish and updating. But if we’re not talking player models, I’d like to see the old cat and wolf models get updates, and maybe some of the old pet companions, too — kitty cats are nice and all, but the cats from vanilla look woefully outdated compared to more recent companions that have been released.
QFTQ: Do you find it difficult to imagine the normal lives of big lore characters in World of Warcraft?
Yes, but that’s mostly because contextually, we don’t really see any of them outside of those big, heroic moments. Let’s face it, watching Malfurion and Tyrande go for a walk isn’t exactly the most engaging or exciting gameplay in the world. Those kinds of things are the sort of things I’d imagine seeing in short stories, novels, or comics — they aren’t really “important” enough to be included in regular gameplay, but they’re interesting enough that they could hold their own as a side piece to the game itself.
What advice would you give someone coming back to play WoW after a loooong absence, aka gates of AQ opened? So. Much. New. :O
Start from level one. Don’t boost to level 90, you’ll be lost immediately — just go ahead and play through all that low level content and get used to the game again. It’s a heck of a lot different than it was when you played last time, particularly since Cataclysm did a number on all those low-level leveling zones, so it’s worth it to just start over from scratch again at this point and check out everything you’ve missed. Gates of AQ means you’ve missed a lot in terms of story, but also in terms of playable races, professions — I mean, you pre-date Jewelcrafting, even. Just take your time and take it all in, don’t feel like you need to rush to level 100, because hey, at this point, it’s like you’re playing a brand new game all over again. Enjoy it!
