Does this job posting mean new Diablo is in the works?

Though this is a long way from confirmation, a curious Blizzard job posting caught our eye today: Blizzard is looking for an Art Director on an unannounced project that’s listed under the Diablo franchise (with the caveat that applicants should have “a deep understanding of the Diablo franchise”). So, like the double rainbow (or, perhaps, the mythical cow level), what does this mean?

Unannounced projects really only mean one thing: new game content. What this game content may be, however, is up for grabs. Is the Diablo team staffing up the art department to start designing a new expansion? New classes? A whole new Diablo game? All of that’s currently an unknown, but an unannounced project typically means something big — they’re not just hiring someone to join the Diablo 3 team to work on the current game, they’re hiring someone to work on something new.

Still, it’s an exciting unknown simply because Blizzard has yet to give us any clues about what comes next for Diablo. Though content patches have continued at a slow but steady pace, there have been no whispers of an expansion or a sequel… and the idea that they’re working on something potentially big, even if it’s still years out, is an exciting one.

So, readers, tell us: what do you think is coming next to the Diablo universe?
