Breakfast Topic: Making a switch

I’ve made a lot of class switches as I’ve played World of Warcraft. I started as a Warlock, raiding Molten Core and Blackrock Lair in vanilla. I swapped to a Holy Priest late in vanilla, finding I enjoyed the healing game, but switched again to Holy Paladin when Burning Crusade arrived for the added survivability provided by plate armor and an arsenal of life-saving cooldowns. By Mists of Pandaria, I felt the need for another change and swapped to the shiny new Monk class, intending to heal, but instead finding myself drawn to the melee DPS Windwalker spec.

With a game you’ve played for a decade, changing things up keeps things interesting — but when do you decide to stick with a certain type of gameplay and when is it time to move on? That can be a tough choice, especially when you’re in a guild that relies on you to fill a specific role.

Right now, I’m not entirely enchanted with my Monk, but I’m not sufficiently disenchanted with it to swap to anything else… but I think the time may be coming. I am — and, I’m sure, many of you are — fascinated by the Demon Hunter class that’s coming in Legion, and the desire to switch to something new and different is strong. But with Legion still on the distant horizon, what’s the joy in sticking with a class that no longer catches my interest while Warlords winds down? Perhaps the time for a switch is now.
