The Queue: Definitely not a rebuttal to the non-answer about Dragon Age

Adam and Alex may be out of the office today, but that’s no reason to totally change the editorial direction of the site. Absolutely not. Today’s Queue is just like any other Queue about Blizzard’s games, with no inter-office arguments intelligent and passionate discussion at all.

Hey look! I got a neat photo of a lightning storm yesterday. How about that? It’s like Thrall decided to have a tantrum out here or something. Luckily, nobody was set on fire, and to my knowledge, no usurped former Warchiefs met any kind of grisly ends, either. Let’s get to the questions! Yes, questions.

GOGMOSIS ASKED:

Q4tQ: Any chance we might see a “Likes to watch cutscenes and read quest text” option on LFG?  How about any other play preferences we could set so that it tries to match us with like-minded players?

Well, creating groups in the Group Finder is pretty customizable, and you could probably jot down that you’re interested in reading quest text and viewing cinematics as opposed to a speed run. I think that’s your best option at the moment. I don’t know if they’d ever add that to the LFG options, just because that particular feature is meant to make that whole dungeon group process faster, and reading all the quest text isn’t exactly in line with the purpose of the feature.

But I’m totally with  you, dude. I love reading quest text and watching cinematics. My favorite things!

MEERKATX ASKED:

Q4tQ: Should there be alternate routes to earning flying in Legion? Instead of making everyone do the same exact content in the same exact way make it so that people can pick and choose a path to reaching flying. There is no reason mechanically that I can fly because I’ve done some quests, some exploring, picked up some treasure and made some people happy; so why not allow a pvp route, a crafting route, a gold route, a dungeon route as well?

Well…no. But that’s just my opinion, keep in mind. You want to access flying, which will help you better fly and explore in Draenor. So the achievement to gain flying involves exploring and familiarizing yourself with Draenor. You don’t use a flying mount in PVP, or in dungeons, or while crafting, so those options just don’t make any kind of logical sense. They aren’t related to the reward you’re being offered at all.

POSTER1234 ASKED:

So my question, if you don’t have Draenor Pathfinder yet, will seeing lots of people flying around motivate you to get to work on the achievement? Or will you just curse Blizzard and stay on the ground?

I actually don’t have it yet, and I’m not sure I’m going to get it, really! I don’t have any kind of pressing need for it. Everything I do on Draenor, I can do with a ground mount, so it just doesn’t feel like there’s any kind of urgent necessity for me to go out and grab flying. Honestly, it’ll probably be one of those last-minute things I do while waiting for the next expansion to come out. That’s usually when I grind out all the achievements and collect all the things I didn’t get earlier.

DAEVILGENIUS ASKED:

Q4TQ and/or readers: Some RL friends are offering me to play with them on a Horde server – currently I’m Alliance. Would you recommend starting from level one to get a feel for the Horde or is it easy to adapt to the opposite faction with your main?

If you swap your main over, there’s nothing stopping you from hitting up the low-level zones and playing through them for the story when you’ve got some downtime. The bonus to that is that you get to play with your friends immediately, and you can burn through those quest objectives super fast, so you can just pay attention to the story and not have to worry about any unexpected tragic deaths. Best of both worlds!

HOTTIEDORF ASKED:

Q4tQ:  Is there any way to make the D3 minimap darker?  I’m having a great time with my seasonal barbarian, I’m a crazy completionist and have to uncover ALL the map, and the see-through-ness of the minimap makes it difficult for me.  It doesn’t have to be as opaque as WoW’s, but a bit more contrast would be great.

I don’t play a lot of Diablo 3, but after doing a bit of research it seems like there’s no clear option to adjust the transparency of the minimap. Some people have said that adjusting the gamma settings might help address the issue — but that requires fullscreen mode. I asked our resident D3 expert Megan O’Neill, and she suggested moving the minimap to a different location on the screen. You can do so by left-clicking it. It’s not really an ideal solution, but it might help!

HELDTHELINE ASKED:

Q4TQ, though I’m sure it’s already been asked and answered before: have they ever said anything about allowing us to buy additional reagent bank tabs? I could desperately use a few (dozen) more.

(It’s not hoarding when you’re going to use it all. Eventually.)

I feel your pain, but it’s never been mentioned as a possibility. With the reagent tab itself, and the adjustments that were made to stack size, it’s possible to cram a lot into that reagent tab. There’s little need, at the moment, to make it any larger, save for the people that really like collecting stuff — even if we’re going to use it all. Eventually!

ELIZABETH HARPER DEFINITELY DIDN’T SAY:

First off, I should say that this is just my opinion. All of the characters in Dragon Age Inquisition are interesting ones, with unique romance stories. But that said, for me, the clear winner in Inquisition is Cullen.

Look, I get where you’re coming from. Cullen is an amazing character whose story stretches across all three Dragon Age titles. I had the strange experience of playing the franchise backwards, so watching Cullen’s moments in the earlier games was really eye-opening. He’s a fantastic character.

But he’s a horrible candidate for a romance.

Hear me out: For the Inquisitor. You know, the person that was violently shoved into a role they didn’t ask for and given a power they never wanted to have, then sent to go forge alliances with people they may or may not have a vested interest in or knowledge of, all the while dealing with the very prevalent notion that yes, there is a giant hole in the sky and it’s reflected by the giant hole in her hand.

It’s a lot for any one person to handle. Which is why I prefer the Iron Bull, because he’s got no giant, weighty issues to weigh you down with. Instead, he’s wholly concerned with taking care of you and making sure you don’t flip your lid and go bonkers by giving you a space where you can just set all that crazy stuff that’s going on outside to the side for a moment and breathe.

Do I help Cullen? Absolutely, every single time, because my Inquisitor is the sort that really wants to help people. But in my mind (and in my opinion), the Inquisitor really needs that space to breathe that Bull gladly hands over, no questions asked.

And I’m definitely not saying that because I love the character so much I wrote a short novel about him. Definitely not. I swear.
