The Queue: Adorable death rock

Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!

Okay so on the one hand, I’m kind of terrified at the sheer size of the infernals on Mardum. I mean I think these things give Deathwing a run for their money, size-wise. On the other, they’re almost kind of…cute? Basically what I’m trying to say here is if Warlocks get to summon these things in Legion, I may just have to re-think my class of choice. Let’s answer some questions, shall we?

MATTHIAS SMED LARSEN ASKED:

Question 4 teh que:

I just noticed that the Exodar has an area called the Crystal Hall, which consists entirely of Broken Draenei wearing almost nothing while they mine away. Is this some sort of wierd class difference in Draenei society?

Sort of — to some Draenei, the Broken aren’t even Draenei anymore. They’ve been corrupted, tainted, twisted, and no longer have a connection to the Light because they were infused with fel energies. To some Draenei, this puts them firmly in the category of “things that are just a little too close to the Burning Legion for comfort,” even though that isn’t the case. The Prophet Velen is not one of these people, and is doing his best to guide his people towards compassion when it comes to the Broken — because let’s face it, the reason the Broken are the Broken is because many of these former Draenei were the last line of defense at Shattrath City. Others were simply trying to flee, and got exposed to the fel energies of the Orc Warlocks while trying to escape.

While yes, some Broken moved on to serve Illidan, still others formed tribes here and there — you can find a lot of them in Zangarmarsh. They’re hostile, yes, but I suspect the main reason they’re hostile is a combination of slowly losing their sanity due to the fel exposure that twisted them in the first place, and the fact that they’ve been essentially shunned by their own people. These guys were quite literally in their darkest hour, and instead of getting some kind of help, their people just…gave up on them and told them to go away, fearful that their mutation would somehow spread (something that has never happened, to my knowledge).

Going back to your question, though — the reason there are Broken in the Exodar at all is pretty much because Prophet Velen brought them along and refused to give up on them. Since their connection to the Light has been severed, they can’t serve as Vindicators or Priests anymore, but they’re still capable of doing labor. And hey, who knows — maybe Prophet Velen thought that prolonged exposure to those crystals might turn them around some day.

LOTHARFOX ASKED:

The Queue often ends with, “Such-and-such will be doing the next Queue, be sure to ask them lots of questions.”

Does a Queue writer ever want to challenge another writer, and say, “Such-and-such is doing the Queue, don’t ask any questions, let’s see how they handle it.”?

We’re generally not in the habit of trying to make our co-workers lives harder around here. But hey, if we feel like pranking the next author in line, we can always just bring up a random topic that’s sure to get plenty of commentary and very little questions as a result. We try not to do that though, because we’re all well aware of the hassle of wrangling questions when there are no questions to be had. So keep asking! That’s what the column is for, after all!

@BARTZEBEST ASKED VIA TWITTER:

With the upcoming Hunter change to a more diverse style gameplay, do you expect another class to change likewise in the future?

I don’t think so — at least not with the same amount of severity, although the new Outlaw Rogue spec seems to be an attempt to address the same issue. Choosing a spec over the years has kind of evolved from “What sounds really cool and fun to play” to “What’s the one spec that’s statistically going to do the most damage,” which while practical, isn’t exactly a bucket of fun. Making changes to the core of a class identity and hammering out what’s the most fun thing about playing a particular class seems to be what Legion‘s changes are focused on — and I’m perfectly fine with that, because some of these changes may be fairly radical, but they all look fun so far.

@VALKCRAFT ASKED VIA TWITTER:

With the new wardrobe in legion, do you think we might get access to the dk starter/salvage yard sets/weapons on all chars?

No — likely those sets will still be designated as Death Knight only. Keep in mind that Death Knights were introduced in Wrath — they don’t have any early tier sets at all. They never had a Tier 2. That starting gear is basically the equivalent of that — a cool looking class-limited set. Maybe not quite as flashy as the original tier sets were, but it’s still something, you know? I doubt we’ll see that opened up to any plate-wearing class.

@THESHOEBOOTS ASKED VIA TWITTER:

Queue question: What current in-game rewards would you speculate will disappear when Legion goes live?

Usually it’s currency, but I’m guessing we’ll see some fairly substantial shifts to Warlords garrison missions once Legion is in play. I doubt they want to make you feel obligated to go back and keep farming your garrison for eternity — they’d rather have you playing the new expansion instead. So I’m guessing some missions, like the ones with substantial gold rewards, will probably either go away, or have their rewards severely reduced. It’s all guessing at this point, though!

@CHAINSHAW511 ASKED VIA TWITTER:

If I still have the level 90 boost from buying Warlords, what happens to that if I preorder Legion?

You keep it, indefinitely. It’s yours, you can use it however you like. It’s not going to turn into a level 100 boost when Legion comes out — you get the level 100 boost when you pre-order Legion, and you keep the level 90 boost to use at your discretion.

That’s it for today’s Queue — if you have any questions you’d like to see answered, be sure to leave them in the comments below!
