Breakfast Topic: Do you miss Dalaran?
You know, out of all the big names and familiar faces and really cool stuff I’m excited about in Legion, I have to say the most obscure one I’m excited to see again is Jones. He’s a cat that lives in Dalaran, sits in a stairwell in the Legerdemain Lounge and…well, doesn’t really do anything of significance. If you/pet him, he’ll purr. That little landing was my favorite place to perch throughout Wrath of the Lich King, while waiting for a raid or a dungeon or just chatting away in guild chat. I mentioned him briefly in the Queue over the weekend, and it got me thinking about Dalaran, and why, exactly, it was such a big part of the reason why I loved Wrath so much.
Part of it was that it was a space for both Alliance and Horde, which meant I’d consistently run into people at any given hour of any day. Part of it was the random stuff that happened as a result of all these people being jammed together in one spot, whether it was mount stacking above the well, or exceptionally long mammoth parades around the outer perimeter of the city. But a lot of it had to do with all the little hidden things tucked in and around the city — Jones, Windle Sparkshine and his not-a-quest to light all the lanterns in the city, Minigob Manabonk‘s sudden appearances, the coins in the fountain — all of it made the city more than just a place to set your hearthstone and gather rested XP. It was interactive in a way that I think few major hubs have been since then.
So I’m really excited to see Dalaran make a return — but I’m hoping we’ll see all those crazy little moments in the city make a return as well. Or see them replaced with other, new, crazier moments to discover as the expansion goes on. What about you guys? Did you love Dalaran — do you miss it? What was your favorite expansion hub? Did the Shrines in Pandaria suit you better, or maybe the sprawling ruins of Shattrath in Burning Crusade?
