The Queue: What a nice new friend you’ve made

Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!

I found myself strangely transfixed by the floating skull that followed Alex’s Warlock around on this week’s Legion livestream. He’s awfully detailed for something that doesn’t appear to be a pet so much as an orbiting presence. I’m wondering if he had a name. And I’m also wondering if Warlocks will ever be allowed to name their demons in any fashion — I know it’s a Hunter thing, but come on. After so many years enslaved at your side, you’d think you could call the little dude anything you’d want.

MOONLUP ASKED:

Follow up to the Old God question, I’ve been musing lately on how much the Lich King knew/knows about them considering he’s living in a fortress made of one’s blood. I’ve been avoiding details of the artifact quests, but I’d be curious to know if this is addressed in any of the DK ones.

Not that I’ve seen — without giving away any spoilers, the Lich King has always been far more interested in taking down the Burning Legion than anything Old God related. Arthas spent plenty of time in Warcraft 3 carrying out the will of the Lich King and kicking the Burning Legion to the curb. In Wrath, Yogg Saron showed us a vision of the Lich King torturing Bolvar, which meant that Yogg was definitely paying attention to his neighbor, but we saw very little to indicate that the Lich King had any kind of vested interest in the Old Gods. I don’t think the new Lich King has any inkling or interest in the Old Gods, either.

MISTAH JAY ASKED:

Q4tQ: Why doesn’t Greymane have Running Wild in Heroes?

Heroes is a very different game than World of Warcraft — not everyone has every ability they possess carry over into the Nexus. Greymane seems to be pretty popular even without that particular advantage.

MIKEMCGRADY ASKED:

How many heroes of Azeroth are there? We are the player characters, and it is assumed that there is only one commander of the horde armies (or alliance equivalent), and when major lore figures are defeated, in game characters recognize that act as a group of adventurers taking down the Lich King, etc. Does that mean there are roughly 25-40 heroes in game that represent the player base, or are there millions of highly capable adventurers (as there are millions of subscribers). If that’s the case, it doesn’t seem like anything could be a real threat, with millions of potential denizens of Azeroth capable of taking down Arthas, Deathwing, Illidan, etc.

It’s an undefined number — as far as the game is concerned while you’re playing it, you are the most important hero out there. As far as lore books and additional material are concerned, you’re not really a character in that story. It’s one of those weird gameplay/lore areas that are nebulous for a reason, and assigning an actual numeric value to the number of people isn’t really necessary to facilitate the story being told. Although really, everyone on Azeroth is pretty important as far as that goes — everyone pitches in and helps where necessary when the fate of the world is on the line. So I guess you could say everyone is a hero in one aspect or another.

WRATHSOME ASKED:

The Artifact weapon; have we heard of future upgrading? As the inherent best-in-slot, I can’t imagine having a weapon from mythic HFC while I was entering normal High Maul when the expansion began.

Yes! Behold, the Relic slot:

relic_slot

You get two of them with your Artifact weapon, and Relics drop all over the world. Presumably, they’ll also drop in raids at some point during end game as well. As you can see, Relics offer you a boost to your Artifact’s ilvl as well as a boost to one of your Artifact traits. I’m guessing that as you progress further along in endgame, those boosts will be higher.

LOTHARFOX ASKED:

I was watching a video about the legendary drops in Legion. Is there some control on how they drop? They’re BoP, so you cannot get one unsuitable for your class and send it to an alt or sell it on AH. So do they roll the dice, see if you will get a legendary when you loot, and then ensure it is one that class/spec can use?

And are these pieces “legendary?” Do they relate to big named people from the past, or some epic lore point, or geography? Some have a titan name or something associated with them, like Aggramar, but others seem sort of generic.

It’s all random, as far as I know. As far as the Legendary designation goes, they’re exceedingly rare, exceedingly powerful, and they’re denoted with that familiar Legendary orange color. There’s no big lore dump with these things, they appear to be fairly random for the most part — they’re just cool and exceptionally rare drops you can get if you’re very lucky. It’s just like how purple epic items were very, very rare to find in vanilla, only this time, they’re orange.

ROGUESIGYN ASKED:

Q4tQ: Can’t remember if Noblegarden has some kind of XP-boost attached to the holiday? Also if it has, does it stack with the Darkmoon Faire carousel buff? I smell a sweet super leveling weekend next week.

Nope, there’s no XP boost associated with Noblegarden. But hey, free chocolate! A collectible mount! Pet bunnies! Magic wands that will turn your friends into bunnies and allow you to collectively pester your friendly faction leaders!

…Noblegarden’s been one of my favorite in game holidays for a very long time.
