Olympic skins likely coming to Overwatch

Updated

Though Blizzard hasn’t officially announced it, it seems likely that Overwatch is getting some new skins just in time for the summer Olympics. Streamer Laced Up Lauren received a package from Blizzard including pictures of Olympic-themed skins for Zarya, Lucio, and Tracer along with art of Rio. Considering Heroes of the Storm is getting its own summer Olympics skin in the form of Striker Li-Ming, it makes sense that other games would be getting similar love.

So just what’s coming to Overwatch and when will we see it? That’s what we’re all wondering.

Update: Lauren has uploaded some more photos including a clearer shots of the Olympics Tracer, Lucio, and Zarya as well as two sheets of stickers showing all the heroes heading to the Olympics. They have less detail than the other art, but they are super cute. Especially Mei.

The art in Lauren’s package shows weightlifting Zarya, football Lucio, and track & field Tracer — but more interesting is the Rio map. Does this mean we’ll get a new map as well as new skins? Rio would fit in nicely with Overwatch’s story. Not only does Lucio call Rio home, but Symmetra’s comic A Better World is set there, too — and shows Vishkar has an interest in the city, too. If we do get a Rio map, we could find some interesting new story Easter eggs.

If these are coming in time for the Olympics, that means soon: this summer’s Olympics begin on August 5 and last through August 21.
