The Queue: Can I just live here?
Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!
Look I know the Burning Legion is this all-encompassing terrible thing that threatens the very existence of the entire world of Azeroth as we know it, but…can I just leave the heroic deeds to the rest of you guys and live in the library? I’ll be quiet, I swear. You’ll never know I was here.
From others’ use of the word, I call the character that I play my “toon.” Spellcheck hates that word. But where does it come from to mean a player character? Is it short for something, like “cartoon?”
I believe it’s meant to be short for cartoon, yes — I’m assuming it’s because the character is animated, and typing out “toon” takes a lot less time than “character,” but I’m really not certain on that one. I mean, I’ll either call it my character, or if I really want some kind of shorthand, I’ll say alt. As in, “Hang on, let me swap over to my alt.” It sounds kind of silly and never really made any sense to me, so I never use it. But there are plenty of people out there who do!
What’s your favorite “annoyed” statement that units from the Warcraft/Starcraft games say?
If you click a Mantid enough times, it’ll eventually say “No, I am not crying, my nasal cranial ducts are irrigating excess mucin from my lacrimal sacs! It’s perfectly normal!”
What, in your opinion, was Helya’s benefit in her bargain with Sylvanas? We already know what the Banshee Queen got out of it.
That’s a good question. Unfortunately, I don’t have an answer for you just yet. What I do have is the question I’ve been trying to answer, which is “What could Sylvanas offer to Helya, that Helya doesn’t already have?” The logical answer would be more souls, or maybe it’s just revenge. Maybe Helya just wants to prevent Odyn from having any Val’kyr. After all, she wouldn’t be who she is today if Odyn hadn’t forced her to become the first Val’kyr and get to that whole harvesting spirits of the deceased thing. She’s still mad about that, and rightfully so. Odyn is kind of a jerk.
Which is the best? The Grimy Goons, Kabal or the Jade Lotus?
I’m partial to Rogues, and Druids, and heck even Shaman, so I’d have to go Jade Lotus. I mean…shady group of spies and assassins? That sounds like lots of fun to me.
What do you think of the 3 talking artifacts (demo, arcane, shadow) lorewise and should we trust them?
You know, back during the pre-expansion events for Wrath of the Lich King, players got an item called a Dual-Plagued Brain that was quite the little chatterbox. I never bothered turning in the quest on my Shadow Priest, and kept it in my bags. Sadly, after the event had concluded, the brain went silent. And after switching races for a guild achievement, I lost the quest and the quest item both. I’m still sad about that.
Needless to say, I’m a fan of items that talk to the holder. So I’m a fan of the chatterbox Artifacts, too. As for whether we should trust them or not…well, one is related to the Old Gods, one is related to the Burning Legion, and one is the essence of an arcane entity of unknown origins. I’m thinking maybe it’s probably not the best idea to trust any of them — they might speak truths, but it’s a safe bet that those truths are being spoken solely for the benefit of whatever those entities happen to serve. Magic things are tricky.
