The Queue: Topsy turvy

Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!

You know, when I first heard there was an upside-down Karazhan way back in the day, I always assumed it was just a portion of the tower that went underground. I never even considered the idea that it would simply occupy space on the original tower’s ceilings. Needless to say, I like the ceiling Karazhan much better than the idea of a subterranean tower.

DIGSU ASKED:

While traveling through Greywatch today, I noticed the worgen there had some tracking hounds on hand and now I’m just wondering… Why would worgen need tracking hounds? Okay, I guess it’s perfectly possible for a dog breed to have a better sense of smell than werewolves, but this is in Stormheim, where they’re almost exclusively fighting the Forsaken. You probably don’t even need to be a canine to be able to track down undead based on smell.

Part of it is probably that the hounds have a better smell, but I’m guessing that part of it is also habit. Gilneans have apparently long had tracking hounds — they were all over in Gilneas, and it’s apparent that they’re well-loved. Just because the majority of the population got hit with a werewolf curse doesn’t mean they’re suddenly going to ditch the puppies they love, you know?

ROBERT JAMES ASKED:

Why are the Draenei the only Eredar that have an Eastern Euro accent?

Fel magic.

No really though, the Draenei have been separated from their Eredar kin for thousands upon thousands of years at this point. One can assume that lingual shifts happened during that time period — either the Eredar lost their accent in the millennia of working with non-Eredar demons, or the Draenei just naturally developed an accent over time.

HUSSKIES ASKED:

Q4TQ: Am I the only one who doesn’t want Kil’jaeden to actually die in ToS? I feel like he’s the more interesting villain in the Warcraft universe. I want more of his plots and scheming. Hell I’d actually really like to see what happens after KJ takes his fellow Eredars and goes rogue on big Sarg.

You know, I hadn’t really thought about it until I saw the trailer for patch 7.2. Kil’jaeden’s almost indignantly angry mention of Argus gave the distinct impression that he is not only keenly aware of the Legion’s failures, but he’s getting really resentful about the whole situation. And we’ve seen at least one demon come around to the side of the Light, which makes me wonder how interesting it would be to see Kil’jaeden do the same. More importantly, whether or not Velen could ever forgive him and let that redemption happen. I mean, what does Kil’jaeden think is going to happen once the Legion wins? Sargeras’ game isn’t to let the Legion rule the universe, here — it’s to wipe out the entirety of existence so the Void doesn’t win. That doesn’t exactly leave room for the Eredar to revel in their successful conquering…or, you know, continue being alive.

GALDWYNN ASKED:

Q4tQ: With the Legion able to eavesdrop on that meeting it appears there is a spy in the Azeroth leadership. Who do you think it is?

I don’t think there’s a spy so much as Khadgar, in his infinite wisdom, decided to have a meeting in the middle of an open-air area on the edge of Dalaran overlooking Burning Legion central. Let’s face it, it’s not like Kil’jaeden had to look very hard, you know? Everyone was right there in plain sight having a chat.

MISTAH JAY ASKED:

Q4tQ: Can Velen respec into Shadow the same way he rerolls into Holy/oldDisc specs? If so, do you think he will?

I don’t think we will ever see Velen embrace the idea of Shadow magic, much less practice it. We’d be more likely to see him go full Paladin and start smashing things with the Light instead. I mean sure, the life cycle of the naaru and the Light itself includes that whole balance of Light and Void, but I don’t really see him embracing that path at all. Just look at the Velen of alternate Draenor — he sacrificed his own life to purify K’ara and bring the naaru back to the Light. Yes, Velen is angry at the Burning Legion — more than we’ve ever seen before — but I don’t think he’d sacrifice his own righteous mastery of the Light in order to fight back.
