Will you be enlisting in Volunteer Guard Day today?

Today is one of those new WoW micro holidays. In this case, Volunteer Guard Duty. To participate, just head to a major city, target one of the NPC guards, type the /salute emote and you’ll gain that guard’s appearance for 24 hours. The appearance buff persists through death, so you can have fun questing or RPing with it. This works in both Horde and Alliance cities as well as Dalaran, Shattrath City, and the guards standing at the doors of your faction-appropriate Pandaria shrine.

Unfortunately, it won’t work with oversized guards like the Arcane Guardians. But hey, you can turn into an Abomination in the Undercity or a Royal Guard, so go crazy. The other trick of being transformed into a city guard is that you will be attacked by invaders in major cities. Killing them will give your buff a fancier title that other players can see, but not much else. This title only lasts as long as the buff — once the micro holiday is over, so is the fancy title.
