The Queue: I have a case of alt-itis
I’m torn. I know I’m going to level a Vulpera. I mean, if you know me even a little, you know that’s happening. However, now that Shadowlands was announced, I really want to go back through and do all that content dating back to Cataclysm, when Sylvanas may-or-may-not have first made her deal with The Jailer. The catch is, Vulpera will likely start at a higher level, and I’d really like to go through all the Silverpine quests. Also, I have to wait for them to be released, and waiting is hard.
While I wrestle with this conundrum, we have some Queuein’ to get to…in.
Q4tQ What’s your favorite Priest race?
Most of the original races which could be priests are thematically on point, just because of the inclusion of those original class-specific abilities. Dwarves wouldn’t be my first choice in a vacuum, but there’s something really compelling in the idea of a motherly female dwarf standing behind you, maybe smearing a little dirt on your nose, maybe rubbing her thumb over a heavy stone now well-worn with thousands of thousands of prayers, to imbue you with the courage of the earth in a Fear Ward.
Most of those early race-specific spells were great for adding a ton of flavor and RP backstory value to those characters. Maybe not Feedback, but most of them.
Since then we’ve gotten a few other races which are also appropriate — hello there, Lightforged — but those original five races are toward the top for me.
It’s a federal holiday and I’m at home bingeing on old buzzfeed unsolved videos. How are your days going?
It’s super cold where I live all of a sudden. Despite being low-key obsessed with The Long Dark for most of the summer, now that it’s actually cold out I’m finding it a bit less charming, and I’ve been playing Graveyard Keeper a bit. I’m ready to hunker down and hibernate. Soup or baked cheesy pasta for every meal, or maybe some grilled cheese? (I will say that I prefer dijon to yellow, though).
When do the charity pets typically go on sale? I want Dotty!
Brightpaw and Mischief were both released on December 2nd, two years apart. Argi was on December 3rd.
Whomper, last year’s pet, was the outlier. His switch was flipped during BlizzCon itself. Shadow was also an outlier. Benefiting the Red Cross and other disaster relief organizations, he was released early — in mid-September 2017 — after the devastation of Hurricane Irma and wildfires in California.
I would guess December 3rd for Dotty, because it’s a Tuesday. It’s a while to wait, but then I’d wait for that widdle faaaace.
Vulpera can’t be Shamwows, right?
They can indeed. Even their totems are adorable little fox heads.
I cannot even with the Vulpera. They are the cutest, and I may need to roll several, especially after I get that Dotty battle pet.
Q4tQ: With tomorrow’s launch of Disney+, have you or are you planning to subscribe, and what’s the first thing you want to watch?
I have subscribed, and am planning to watch The Mandalorian first.
I haven’t, which is odd because I do have two younger kids. However, my eight year old is uninterested in anything except My Little Pony and She Ra, which are both on Netflix, and my four year old will only watch videos of trains. Like, actual trains, at actual train crossings. He’s also learned to mimic them, and he has an innate musical talent because he literally does it on pitch after he’s seen a video a couple times. My house is filled with the sounds of train horns at all hours — no way I could even tell what Darkwing Duck is saying.
He will also deign to watch Chicken Run but only while he’s in the car, which is alright by me. I didn’t realize the love interest was Mel Gibson until after Santa brought the DVD and now the whole business makes my skin crawl, even if “I don’t want to be a pie! I don’t like gravy,” is pretty classic. Ironically, sometimes he’ll also be down with watching Critical Role, but I like the political intrigue and “shopping” episodes while he likes it when Matthew Mercer makes sounds that “go BOOMT!” so we’re at an impasse there too — only 40-something episodes to catch up on!
I will say you should look for Brian Posehn when you watch, because he got to live out one of the biggest nerd dreams ever by being in The Mandalorian. He’s been working as an actor and standup comic for at least 2 decades, with a lot of his routine centering on him being a huge nerd, and now he’s IN STAR WARS. I get a little taste of that feeling every time I walk into a pet shop in Dalaran, and it’s the most heartwarming, touching thing to see something like that happen to somebody. Look at this big, fluffy nerd face.
